He couldn't help but grin. Starling's cheerfulness was starting to rub off on his cold heart. "Good; I'm not as athletic as I used to be. Guess this means I'll have to get a favor in with Robinfrost - he might not be so eager to give me work."

"Maybe it could even do you good! Exercise will keep you from gathering dust." The she-cat teased. "Besides, a newbie little apprentice against a war hardened elder? I don't think I'll be too much trouble for you. Now, Robinfrost, I doubt he could handle me."

"Always possible. I think you misunderstand how much young apprentices bounce around, though…" Maplefrost couldn't imagine trying to keep up with the younger version of himself. How in CloudClan's name had he done it? He'd give up fish for a moon if it meant having that sort of energy again.

"No way they could have as much energy as half the kits in this nursery. Most are almost apprentices, imagine what I have to live with." She groaned, flopping over dramatically onto the elders big white paws. Which, were probably the size of her little head. She peeked out of the corner of her eye at him, "May CloudClan have mercy on your soul."

A soft snort escaped the elder. "You only gain energy as you grow up, though it goes down again once you're well into your warrior moons. Picture kittens with greater stamina. Mercy, indeed."

She tried climbing the massive elder, clambering up his side and slipping down his thick fur a few times. She didnt wanna use her claws to climb, of course. She finally reached the top of the mighty cat mountain, curling up and getting cozy on his back. "Hmmmmm. I want more stories. Or, or, we can go on a trip....OUTSIDE of camp!" She purred at the idea. "With you as my steed."

"What're - ack!" he exclaimed, not quite fast enough in getting to his feet. The kitten was clinging like a burr and there was probably no getting rid of her now. Maple rolled his clouded eyes.
"Alright, fine. We'll go on a trip. Not into the territory, though; you're not quite old enough yet." He took a few big, creaking steps towards the den entrance. "Watch your ears."

"Really? WOW!" She was so excited. She bet none of the other cats around here got a piggy back ride from a cat before; much less, an old man! Now that was exciting. "Where are we gonna go?" She asked, perking her ears and peaking down at the top of his head once the exited the nursery. The queens would probably have a COW if they found out she was in such a precarious position. Was this safe? Especially because he was blind? Probably not. Fun? Yes.

It was fortunate that Maplefrost had gotten pretty good at navigating the camp without sight. He wouldn't want to trip and accidentally get Starling hurt. "Why don't we visit my den? We can stop by the prey pile on the way," the calico offered, following his nose towards this new destination.

The elders den? She'd never been there before! "Yeah, that sounds great! Want me to carry the prey?" She asked, peering over at the approaching pile.

"Yep, it's all you. Take your pick." He paused by the heap and crouched down stiffly, giving the kitten a chance to hop off.

She leapt off, remembering the elders comment about fish she picked up a fat trout from the pile. She had a hard time carrying the large fish in her little jaws but she managed to not let it drag on the ground. Unable to mewl at him to crouch down again she pawed at his fluffy leg.

Unable to stay low for long due to his muscles protesting, Maple straightened up while Starling was rustling through the options. "All set? On you get," he meowed once he felt a tiny paw patting his leg. Once again, he sank down to allow boarding. Wonder if this is what the queens have to do all day.

She clambered onto the elder, trying not to get the trout all furry. She peered ahead at the elders den coming into view, her pelt tingling with excitement. Maybe she could meet Windflurry!

The Maine Coon plodded off for his den, relieved for the chance to relax in his nest. He brushed inside and stopped in the middle to let Starling off. "Alright, here we are, miss… hmm. Wait. You'll have to excuse my memory - I did get your name, right?"
