Fernpaw's inquisitive eyes peeked out over a small rocky ledge. She ducked down and sprang up onto the rocks, practicing her hunter's crouch. Pouncing on a leaf, she bat at it until it was shredded and looked up, seeing if anyone had seen her. What she was greeted with was something she didn't expect. A huge company of fireflies had settled down in front of her, and when she took a pawstep forward, they lit up and swarmed around her gracefully. 'They're so beautiful.' she breathed, gasping.

"I know, right?" Mosspaw stepped out of the tall grass and continued to watch the fireflies. Her mentor never took her out so this was the best way to train stalking. She shook the dead grass off her pelt, scaring the fireflies away. "Oops," she said, looking at them fly away. The apprentice turned back to her friends. "Hi," she said for the first time in the duriation of seconds that they've noticed the other's presence. "Nice to... see you again?" Fernpaw had been training a lot, Mosspaw never trained. The apprentice usually had to sneak out to practice.

Fernpaw jumped as Mosspaw appeared out of the tall grass. She purred in amusement but watched a little sadly as the fireflies flew away. Now turning her attention back to the other apprentice, she smiled a little. "Nice to see you too. How've you been holding up?" she asked, turning to look up at the stars.

Mosspaw didn't know what to say. She shrugged "I'm doing okay, for an apprentice who dosen't train." the apprentice snickered at that last part. She looked at her friend, who seemed to be doing well. "I'm guessing you've been training a lot." She stated, joing Fernpaw in looking at the stars.

Fernpaw glanced sideways awkwardly at Mosspaw. "Er... yeah. How come you aren't training? Doesn't your mentor take you out?" she asked curiously, gaze flickering across the milky way.

Mosspaw stopped looking at the stars and turned to Fernpaw. "No, not really but I like doing my own thing." She looked back at the stars. "Sometimes I watch apprentices train and copy their moves." she mewed. "It's kind of nice training myself because I can do it whenever I want. Anyway..." Mosspaw jumped to her paws. "How about you show me some moves, like what you did to that leaf."

Fernpaw nodded quietly, lost in thought. When Mosspaw asked her to show her some moves, she readily agreed. "Of course, why not? You start like this." she said excitedly, standing up and crouching in a hunter's poise. Her tail flicked silently as she moved forward towards let another leaf, ears pinned back. She pounced, encasing the leaf under her paws and giving it a killing bite, which made it break. "This is a great way to catch mice." she commented, flicking the leaf particles away.

Mosspaw copied Fernpaw's crouch, however she had not master the art of balancing. Her fur brushed the dirt and the ground and she found to had to even her weight out. All of the apprentice's weight was on her front paws and she collapsed. "Oof!" She breathed as all fours were on the ground. She looked up at Fernpaw and laughed at her clumsiness. "Ok, I think I need a bit more practice..."

Fernpaw grinned at her friend and helped her up, before crouching again. "Treasurehunt told me to keep my weight on all my paws. That way my weight is balanced evenly and I have less of a chance of both falling over and making noise." she instructed, then smirked a little. "Otherwise you'll be a Mosspaw!" Laughing, she pounced on the other feline's tail, pinning it to the ground.

"Hey!" Mosspaw shouted, spinning around to get her tail free. Her tail was fluffy and full of fur, so Fernpaw was guaranteed to grab on to some fluff. Mosspaw wanted to try the crouch so she could have a more powerful leap, or at least that's how she thought it work. She squatted down, trying to put all her weight onto her back paws. Of course, she couldn't do that which lead her to spread her wight evenly amongst her paws. "Hey!" she mewed again, but more cheerfully and less angrily. "I can do it!" Mosspaw pounced ungracefully, tumbling over Fernpaw.

Fernpaw grinned and let go of Mosspaw's tail, leaping back as she watched the other apprentice attempt to crouch. She opened her maw to reply, when Mosspaw tumbled over her. She broke out laughing, and she flopped around uselessly on the floor, trying to get out from underneath Mosspaw. "Can't breath! Bwahahahaha - seriously! Off!" she breathed, batting the other apprentice's backside with sheathed claws.

Mosspaw got up slowly. "Hey, no fair!" she scrambled to her paws and circled Fernpaw. "I'm expecting you to train me more." She sat down and groomed her paw. "It'll be good practice for your." Mosspaw looked up. "As you obviously will become a warrior before me." she stated with a hint of jealously.

Fernpaw let out a puff of air as Mosspaw extracted herself from the pile, and she flopped over onto her paws. She wheezed out a few more breaths and shook herself, before tilting her head. "Aw, come on, Mossy! Don't ruin the fun! You're bound to become a warrior too, and then we can go on all the patrols!" she chided, before crouching back into her hunter's crouch. "Now, if you really want to catch a mouse, you've gotta make sure that you're downwind from it, if the wind is blowing in your direction. Otherwise the mouse will smell your scent. After that, you have to make sure you don't step on anything crunchy or stuff that'll crack, like sticks and leaves. You have a go. Pretend I'm the mouse." Fernpaw said, crouching again and pretending to nibble on the grass, wrinkling her nose.

Mosspaw held her tail up and watched it as the wind blew it. Perfect, she thought. She crouched the way Fernpaw told her and put her tail between her legs, with it in front of her superior paws, Mosspaw was able to sweep all the twigs and leaves away from her path. Once she thought she was close enough, Mosspaw swiftly jumped from her position onto Fernpaw and landed half on her friend and half on the ground.

Fernpaw 'obliviously' turned away from Mosspaw as she began to sniff the leaves behind her, instead of eating them. Twitching her whiskers, she turned around just as her friend leaped on her. The apprentice crashed to the ground yet again in a chortle of laughter, pain and fur. "Great job, Mosspaw!" she praised, wriggling out from underneath her friend and stretching slightly. "Wanna try again, or wanna try and catch a rabbit?" she asked, sitting down.
