Mosspaw jumped up and down. She was just as excited as she was when she got to leave the nursery when she was a kit. "Let's go catch a rabbit!" she purred. Mosspaw skipped next to Fernpaw. "How do you catch one?"

Fernpaw grinned. "Ok! Follow my lead!" she said, turning around and leaping through the exit smoothly, following the hard-to-see but well worn path that led to the rabbit fields. She immediately turned to look at the pink that was clouding her vision over, and a bright light began to flicker over the mountains in IceClan. "Perfect timing! Dawn is when all the rabbits come out to eat, and they're all very sleepy unless you alert one!" she whispered to Mosspaw excitedly, then flicked her tail at a brown tuft of fur lazily hopping along the grass fields. "Ok, so I'm gonna chase that rabbit around towards you, and you kill it, ok?" she said. "On 3!"

(Sorry I didn't write much, there was really nothing interesting I could do.) Fernpaw started counting. This made Mosspaw nervious. "But I've never killed an animal!" she hissed quietly. Fernpaw ignored here. I guess I'll try. she told herself sighlently.

Fernpaw began to count. "123 go!" she hissed back quickly, then leaped forward and began to circle the rabbit. It was jolted awake and began to run nervously away from her. Grinning, she turned back around and circled the rabbit in a wider arch, before sprinting towards it in the direction of Mosspaw. The rabbit shrieked and turned and raced towards her friend - right into her paws.

Mosspaw's eyes widened as the furry creature ran into her paws. The creature ran beneath her paws, tripping Mosspaw. Luckily, Mosspaw fell on top of the rabbit, making it impossible to move. Both creatures squirmed to get up and get moving. "Help," Mosspaw gasped, squirming on her back like a turtle.

Fernpaw followed the rabbit slowly, picking her way across the land before reaching Mosspaw. As she saw her friend's troubles, she grinned ear to ear and unsheathed her claws. The rabbit was trapped underneath the other cat and the apprentice flicked an ear before flicking the rabbit's neck artery. The artery spurted blood everywhere and the rabbit was immediately dead. Scrunching up her nose, Fernpaw wiped her claw on the rabbit's coat before turning around to face Mosspaw. "Great technique!" she praised, flicking her tail and smiling.

Mosspaw wrinkled her nose and sat up. She put her paw on the ground, close to where the rabbit last lay. "Ew!" she lifted her paw and studied it. "Is this blood?" she mewed, surprised. Of course there would be blood! her mind shouted, You're hunting! Mosspaw didn't listen to her brain. Quickly, she jumped out of the puddle and started to lick the blood off of her paw.

Fernpaw raised an eyebrow as Mosspaw let out a surprised meow. "Of course it's blood! It's healthy for you!" she said questioningly, before rolling her eyes and grinning. "Ah well, at least we caught the rabbit. We can't eat any of it yet, though, we have to get it to camp first." she nudged the dead animal's head with her paw. It lolled over and stared up at the sky blankly. "It looks really good. Maybe we can use the rabbit fur to line our pelts during leaf bare!"

Mosspaw took all this in. The blood tasted tangy, but at least it was healthy. "If we have to take it back to camp instead of eating it, then shouldn't we line the kit or elder's pelt first?" She put her paw down and wiped it on the dry, dead grass. The rabbit looked good. Of course Mosspaw would have to wait. You must feed the clan before yourself!

Fernpaw rolled her eyes again. "We can just catch another one tomorrow. Besides, I think we deserve it. The elders and kits can wait." she meowed nonchalantly, sheathing her claws and peering at the dead animal. "What do you want to do now? Maybe catch something else?" she asked, sitting down.

(I've left my homework at school and I've been calling everything a noot for the past hour) Mosspaw sat down. "Nah, let's drag it back and line our pelts." she looked around, just in case someone was listening. "And I don't like killing.. things"

Fernpaw nodded. "Ok." she agreed, flicking an ear. As she absorbed the information about killing things, she let out a shocked gasp. "What?! Why?! That's the best part of hunting! You can stalk an animal, and as soon as they're distracted, you leap on them and quickly kill them! Adrenaline, Mossy, adrenaline!" she exclaimed, then humphed. "Whatever. Let's just get this to camp." Fernpaw took hold of the rabbit's neck, then motioned for Mosspaw to hold the back.

Mosspaw pursed her lips. For you maybe. She felt bad when she killed things. A memory still lay in her mind when she saw the shocked and surprised look on a thrush's face when an apprentice leaped on it. Looking up, she realised that she'd zoned out for some time. "Oh right," she leaped forward and grasped the back of the rabbit. Mosspaw cringed after she heard a small crack in the back.

{do cats even have lips?} Fernpaw breathed out sharply through her nose as the two apprentices dragged the dead animal to the camp. Eventually they reached the entrance and the older apprentice pushed through the brambles with her shoulders, barely flinching as they dug into her flesh. She lugged the rabbit with all her strength to the fresh-kill pile and set it down next to it, immediately unsheathing her claws. "Ok, let's get this done." she said, then narrowed her eyes, using her claws to mark out a line along the spine. A thin trail of blood followed her wake and she got to work, slicing off a large rectangle of fur and looking around for Mosspaw. "Ok, now can you quickly get some moss so that we can flip this baby over to get your fur?"

(I checked yahoo answers and found this image) Mosspaw looked at the sticky blood with scared and curious eyes. It shimmered in the dry sunlight of camp. Mosspaw snapped back into reality when Fernpaw called her. She eyes widened with joy. "Moss!" she purred. "Of course!" she ran out of camp to a small stone. This was the best place to get moss, so of course Mosspaw knew where it was. The moss was damp, but no water could or would be detected. She grabbed half a chuck and threw it into the air, pushing at it with her paws. Like a balloon, it stayed in the air but only if Mosspaw pushed it. She stood up and realised she had a mission. Taking the moss that was now covered in a bit of dirt from playing, Mosspaw carried it in her mouth back to camp.
