| I was bitter. No, I was more than bitter. Livid. My father was dead before he had even taken some of his sweet precious time to meet me and here I was now, motherless and fatherless as some sort of orphan kitten getting passed around like a bad cold that left a destructive path of apologetic words. Everyone missed Lightfall, even I did. That queen was one of the kindest women I had known considering she had to put up with squirting out babies as a job. No one missed my father. I'd be reprimanded for speaking of him, as if he'd appear by the simple mention of his name. I'd just have to say his name over and over again in my mind then, hoping that maybe he would appear and just whisk me away. I was of cursed blood and that was unwelcomed in this hell hole. I sighed and let my head drop onto my paws that lay stretched out before me, my eyes watching the hot, mucky fall rain that dripped and dropped from the nursery's many unfixed holes. I clicked my tongue and rolled onto my side, letting out a groan of disapproval at my current cooped up state. It wasn't so much that I liked to explore, but more that I liked to be free of restrictions and requirements. I somehow wished that Drought had taken me with him when I was a kitten, instead of leaving me here to be ridiculed. I continued to roll until I bumped into someone else. I looked over with lazy pale blue eyes and grumbled a halfhearted apology. I wasn't sorry. | | | | | notes/tags |

Drip, drip, drip. It had been raining for nearly the entire day, and the downpour had gradually worked its way into the nursery; currently, a rather fat droplet of water hung just above Shadekit's nose, threatening him with the inevitability of its descent. Just as it was about to drop, the stark white tom felt another cat bump into him, followed by what may have been the least sincere apology he'd ever heard. Turning, the kit noticed a cat who looked about as miserable as the dull gray clouds that dominated the skies above. A mixture of curiosity and sympathy sparked in Shadekit's chest, and he could not help but to ask, at the risk of seeming nosy, "Is something the matter?"

| I looked over at the kitten, reevaluating the cat for a moment. Oh, and he speaks! Joy, just what I needed. I rolled onto my back, belly facing the den's roof. "A lot of thing are of the matter, although I'm assuming you're referring to the reason I don't seem to be excited about being stuck in a leaky den filled with loud, fluffy kittens who roll around in their sleep. Oh look, I answered your question. I guess that is what is of matter currently." I wriggled my toes and sighed, tilting my head back and bearing my throat. "I don't particularly enjoy rain, but I hate enclosed spaces more. They give me a headache." I rolled onto my side to look at the other kit with somber eyes, but an idea lit up in my head and I grinned. The look in my eyes changed to something rebellious as I gave a suddenly wicked grin. "Wanna not be stuck in here?" I slightly tilted my head towards the door, lips curling up to reveal shiny white fangs in a toothy grin. | | | | | notes/tags |

"I suppose you did answer my question," the tom replied, smirking at this other kit's blunt approach to conversation. And, Shadekit had to admit, he could understand the she-cat's reasoning; it was indeed raining, they were indeed cooped up in a dark, leaky den, and kits could, at times, be a bit loud. At the pale white she-kit's question, the young tom perked up; he'd not done anything all day aside from sitting around in the nursery, and the idea of doing something- anything- other than stare at his own tail was immensely appealing. So, meeting the other cat's toothy grin with an anticipatory smirk, Shadekit replied, "Sure, what did you have in mind?"

| I enjoyed the fact that this kitten wasn't crying to his mother, if he even had one, about how mean I was. It seemed to be a common recurrence that kittens got offended by some of the more simple comments that you gave. Oh, Darkpool forbid I not tell them that their fur is soft and pretty or that their mossball (that looks like a lump of peed on moss) is the best thing I've seen since my own reflection! I twisted a paw in the pebble dust on the floor, making small swirling patterns as I concocted a plan. "Don't blame me for the consequences then. I have your words that you willingly joined along!" I gave a maniacal grin. "So, I may or may not have already been outside of camp because of some connections with a... well, I wouldn't call him a friend... he's, more or less, an acquaintance as of now; however, I do know how to get out of here undetected thankful for that... that assumption that you have of me having been out." I stood and stretched, pausing to look over at the dozing queens and kittens that were blissfully unaware of the stunt I was about to pull. "There's a waterfall that'll be partially frozen over and it'll look super cool— and they're'll probably be slush because it's so warm today!" My voice had hushed down to an excited whisper as I lashed my tail. I nodded my head outside the den, giving him a hopeful glance. "We should hurry, or else we'll be missed in the morning." I knew a way through the back of the dirt place, an exit that was generally meant as an emergency escape for the elders, queens, and kittens, but it doubled as a good escape for kittens who wanted to have fun. | | | | | I did get permission for this, if you were wondering/tags |

Smirk growing into a smile as the other cat came up with a plan, Shadekit stood up, making his way toward the entrance; he'd been out once before, as well, through the path behind the nursery. His excitement at doing something he shouldn't, combined with his curiosity at seeing something new, combined to give his bright amber gaze a manic glow; turning back, he called, "Well, let's go then!" and exited the den, pausing a moment to give the she-cat a chance to catch up.
(I actually was gonna ask; good to know. And sorry this is so short :3)

| I rather enjoyed his enthusiasm for the entire thing. I followed after with a permanent grin, careful to move around nests with caution. I caught up to him, motioning for him to skirt around the edge of the camp, just in case so that we wouldn't get caught by a camp guard. I entered the dirtplace, wrinkling my nose up so as to not smell the disgusting contents of the area. At least the nursery wasn't this bad. I moved to a big rock and easily pushed it, the rock, once moved, now showing off that the other side of it had been naturally hollowed out by weather, making it quite light. I scooted onto a ledge and then hopped down to the one a few feet below it. The drop wasn't too long, but it was steep enough that one wouldn't want to fall down to the piney forest floor with it. "Pull the rock over the hole with a paw and then follow me down." I meowed before hopping down a few perches, the wind buffeting my fur. | | | | | it's chill and is that a yukine i seeeeee?/tags |

Following the she-cat through the suffocating stench of the dirtplace and up to the naturally crafted tunnel exit, Shadekit found that he was beginning to like the blunt, slightly devious kit; she seemed easy to get along with, even if she was a bit rebellious. With a grunt, the stark white tom pushed the rock back into place, sealing off the inconspicuous hole in the smooth cliff face. Turning back to follow the other cat, Shadekit imitated the path she had taken, hopping from perch to perch as the chilly leaf-fall breeze threw the frigid rain against him; it was times like this that he was happy for his thick IceClan pelt. Despite the weather, Shadekit found the open mountain air, untainted by the smells that accompanied camp life, to be quite refreshing. With a contented sigh, he padded up to the she-cat and said, "So, you mentioned a waterfall?"
(Haha yes it is a Yukine)

| I was becoming soaked from head to toe. My not overly long, coarse fur could easily deflect small amount of rain, but today the heavy fall was easily making my body shiver. I rolled my shoulders as I leaped onto the solid rocky ground, pebbles spilling into the grassy dirt that was now mud. I frowned as the brown earth sucked at my black paws, begging me to come down into it, but I refused by pulling away and waiting on a more solid piece of land for Shadekit to slide down the last few feet of slanted stone. I turned and gave him a brilliant smile, all hints of sneaky smugness gone as we had officially made our little escape. "That I did, I'm no expert tracker, but the smell of moss and mud is fairly easy to catch when you go in the general direction of it." I motioned with my tail for him to follow as I headed to my right, the tall pines and firs looming menacingly above our heads. I grinned as the fallen needles pricked at the pads of my paws that were already growing rough and calloused. "Right, as much as I'd like to call you by varied names that instigate bad reactions, I've found myself to rather like you, so I'm gonna need a name." I paused to look over my shoulder at him. "It is manners for me to go first though. I'm Mistkit, the orphan of the nursery. Nice to meet'cha." | | | | | Noragami ♥♥♥/tags |

Shadekit slipped under the cover of the towering evergreens, relishing in the scent the trees gave off as much as in the feeling of the prickly pine needles underfoot. He realized that the she-cat had been right; the sharp scents of fresh water and clean moss were easy to detect, even with the merciless onslaught of frigid water that fell from the sky and threatened to wash away any and all smells. He found himself grinning once more, both at the blunt manner in which Mistkit introduced herself as well as the fact that she seemed to think of him as a friend now, too. "Pleasure to meet you, Mistkit. I'm Shadekit, the... um..." he stammered, trying- and failing- to come up with a title for himself, in a similar manner to what Mistkit had done. With a shrug, he gave up, saying, "Well, anyway, I'm Shadekit," in a matter-of-fact manner, as though he hadn't just attempted to give himself a title.

| I gave a sharp smile, eyebrows arching at the attempt to give himself a title. I enjoyed the falling off of words before he tried to make it seem as if he hadn't meant to try and think up something to make him seem cooler. A razor-edged laugh falling from my mouth as I gave him an amused look. "Shadekit the drowned fits you pretty well right now. The rain has made you look like a sad cat indeed. I think something more along the lines of 'Shadekit the nightwalker' would be preferable." I snorted and and flicked my tail at him as I raised my head to look back at the clear sky. It only took a few more moments for us to reach the swirling waters of the waterfall, the foam partially made of slush that curled onto the pebble studded beach side. I grinned and dipped a paw into the ice cold water, shivering slightly as I pulled back. The waterfall was a ways down, but still visible to us. "Wanna go check it out?" | | | | | notes/tags |

"I think you're right," Shadekit replied, flicking his ears in an attempt to rid them of the clinging damp that the rain left on them. He was rather pleased at Mistkit's second title for him, but that was based solely on personal bias, and so he did not voice his approval aloud, though he did wear a smug smile as they continued their path to the waterfall. As his gaze fell onto the churning, frothy water that the river had become, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe; the largest body of water he'd seen before that moment was a particularly large puddle that had formed within the confines of the camp, and so the sight before him was, comparatively, quite staggering. "Sounds like a plan," he replied, a lopsided grin plastered on his face as he turned his gaze down toward the waterfall

| I snorted and looked down at my own fur. The coarse strands themselves didn't seem to be engorged with water, but I was quite literally dripping with it. "I don't seem to be much better off though in the 'drowned' department," I meowed as I gave my chest fur a distasteful lick. At least this proved to be the one benefit of coarse fur— and not getting tangled in things, although I had to admit that seeing a fluffy kitten getting stuck to a pine tree in camp was pretty hilarious. "I've been called insane and psychotic before, but I think the idea I have for right now takes the cake. Wanna play a game to see who can stay in the water the longest without having to get out? I won't take the blame if we freeze our tails off though." I was shivering from the excitement and the cold, looking between the river and Shadekit. The water was being pounded by the icy rain, spraying up a mist of brown liquid and off white foam. "Just don't get pulled down the river or else one of us is going to have fun watching the other take a joyride down the 'falls." Without his confirmation, I hopped into the swirling water, digging my feet deep into the muddy, stony riverbed. Luckily for us, the water hadn't reached it's high, the rain not bring the levels up high enough to drown by just stepping in. The water only just covered my shoulders, my imagination telling em that I probably looked like a floating head. | | | | | notes/tags |

Before Shadekit could reply, Mistkit stepped off the bank, plunging into the water up to her shoulders. "You may be right, my friend, this is pretty crazy" he said, giving her a worried look. Though he didn't quite welcome the idea of wading into frigid, near-flood level water, he wasn't one to back down from a challenge, and it would certainly give him a story to tell later on. With an exaggerated sigh, Shadekit followed the she-cat into the river, his thick white pelt spreading out around him like a waterlogged cloud.

| "Crazy doesn't cover it it. I prefer the term, daring or... risky? It's all about the light you put it in! Besides, I'll just grab you by the scruff if you and your fur cloud start floating down the river like a pine cone!" I showed sharp teeth him my sharp teeth in a toothy grin, hopefully enforcing the idea that holding onto the riverbed would be in our best interest. I hadn't promised that I wouldn't bring him out of here without damage, although I would rather prefer to not endanger a new friend's life. Usually that was how one made enemies. I couldn't stop laughing as he waded in, the puff of fur around around him looking almost a little pathetic. It would be more amusing to see him dry off though, myself hoping that he'd puff up like a lion's mane. Dear Darkpool, I would enjoy that. Giving him a sharp smile, I ducked underneath the raging water, the thudding of my heartbeat clear in my ears as the adrenaline rushed into as my oxygen depleted. I popped back up though, soaked with water droplets hanging from my whiskers and ears. "Nothing better than a good 'ol fashioned wake up call. Try it! When you go under, the world become extremely loud and quiet at the same time. It's interesting." | | | | | notes/tags |
