Maybe this trip would freshen her mind, clear her head and sooth her aching heart. Maybe this little hunting lesson would let her escape the previous night and pretend she was okay and that he was okay and that they were okay. Even though it wasn't; not at all. Petalfur practically dragged herself across the clearing to the apprentice's den, wishing with all she had that her ex-mate wouldn't approach her and see her in pieces again. She didn't know if she could talk to him yet. "Icelily? Let's go," Petalfur called into the dark den, her voice dull and lathered in hurt. "I slept in; sorry." Then she started the slow walk to the camp entrance, trying her best to lighten her step and to keep her tail from dragging on the floor. Template by Meg❤

Lucky for Icepaw she was up already. She had awoken early from her recurring nightmare. When she had woken she had also grabbed a nice peice of prey so she was ready for training.
She padded out of the Apprentices' den and over to her mentor who seemed to look a little upset. 'Most likely an upsetting dream.' She thought softly as she stopped next to her mentor. "Morning Petalfur." She meowed dipping her head in greeting. "Its alright that you slept in. Everyone has to once in a while." She said kindly reassuring there was no need to apologize.

Sniffing the prey-scent that clung to Icepaw's fur, Petalfur couldn't really fell the pull to muster the will to confront her apprentice about eating before she had gone hunting, as that was strictly against the warrior code. Instead she blinked, a bit surprised that Icepaw would disrespect the sacred code, and decided to put it aside. She herself had often taken a piece before her turn when she was an apprentice, but she liked to tell herself that it was because her mentor never really was there to be a mentor. It was that and no cat was perfect when they had no supervision. "Thanks," Petalfur responded simply, flicking her tail to show she'd like to get a move on. Padding out into the clan territory, she let her senses flood with everything else around her, drowning out and brushing aside her heartache for later. Silently walking to the training clearing where her paws were just the night before, Petalfur pretended not to wince even though her pelt twitched with the effort. "Okay," Petal began with a forced smile, turning to face her apprentice. "I assume you know what the hunter's crouch is? Give it your best shot."

Icepaw nodded. "Of course." She lowered herself quickly in to her hunters crouch. Her belly close to the ground but not to close. And her tail stuck out and low to the ground as well along with her head.
"Hows this?" She asked kindly. She looked at her mentor seeing if she had any advice for her.

Petalfur nodded, tilting her head for a better angle. "Move your haunches closer together so you have more spring, and keep your head level with your spine like so," Petalfur directed, lowering herself into a quick, flawless hunter's crouch. Turning her head slowly and silently as though she were actually hunting, she studied Icepaw, watching for improvement.

Icepaw watched Petalfur and nodded copying her quickly; her head leveled with her back and her huaches closer together. She looked at her mentor silently moving her head and in a swift movement. She raised her head in question seeing what she would say. She didnt want to be to loud and scare all the prey from there to The shared clearing.

" "Perfect!" Petalfur exclaimed, flicking her tail proudly. "Now hold it for a minute.... Okay, relax. You should feel your muscles strain, which may hurt a little, but it means your doing it right." Smiling, Petalfur reflected that Icepaw would probably be sore the next day. The hunter's crouch was easy-going, but it was a new skill using different muscles that may not usually be used - or at least not in that way. "Now, as fast as you can, on my cue, drop back down into the crouch. We'll do this a couple times to get you used to it. 'K? Ready.... now.
Sorry this is quick. I'm aware we have a few other threads to get through, an I don't want you to wait too long for your assessment once you become a warrior-rank account. Template by Meg❤

Icepaw nodded to Petalfur and relaxed slowly and then felt the muscles and waited for when Petal would say 'Now.' She slowly rose as her muscles relaxed more and more. Finally Petalfur called out "now".When she did, she quickly dropped into the hunters crouch and waited for Petal to say she could get up.
(Yep I totally understand!)

Petalfur nodded, praising her apprentice warmly before attempting to nudge Icepaw's front paws out a little. "There... Now you can keep your balance, but won't be awkwardly stretched out. Go ahead and stand up" Petalfur instructed. "Okay.... Now."

Standing up Icepaw smiled at the praise and then quickly went down in the hunters crouch. Her paw out like Petalfur had when she nudged it.

"Perfect!" Petalfur exclaimed with a bit too much enthusiasm. "Okay, now watch: this is where it gets tricky." Dropping into her own crouch, Petal proceed to move one paw out at a time, silently slinking along the soft moss ground, around and then back. She made sure to keep her steps light and her spine and head at the same level, but moved her tail to avoid touching anything. Petal also ensured her gait was wide and even, which was not at all easy, and yet moved at a walking pace as silently as possible. "What did you notice?" Petal asked after completing her lap.

Icepaw watched closely. "Well, you kept your head and spin at the same level. And you went at a slow pace so you'd be silent as you stalked." Icepaw meowed in reply to her mentors question.

Petalfur nodded, then smiled. "Yes, that's right. Now, try it," She pressed the apprentice, trying to hurry along so they would actually have time to try hunting. "Remember that its not a race. As long as you're quiet, the animal will likely have no clue of your approach."

Icepaw nodded and crouched down and leveled her head with her spine and let her self relax. Her huaches close together and she finally started to stalk forward at a slow pace. Trying to watch for anything that would give herself away. She stepped over a rock that looked sharp and kept going. "How..was that?" She asked.

With a repeated praise, the Bengal suggested, "You could probably even have your haunches a little wider for increased balance, but over all it was pretty good!" Petalfur examined the sharp stone that her apprentice had wandered over, hoping there was no blood on it. "How's your paw?" she inquired, titling her head a little to show her sincerity.
