[[ Border meet with Spruceclaw . ]] Foxpaw had come down this path many times before. It was easy to tell he'd been travelling near the RockClan border for some time now- the musty and earthy scent was unmistakable, but he was careful not to stray too close. He found that he was finally making some headway in memorizing the territory, and it was much easier to avoid the dips and little plants. The bigger obstacles, like rocks and trees, those were always fairly easy, since he could locate those with echoes and scent. Frankly it was about time he started getting hang of the getting around the TreeClan territories.
This trip wasn't notable in any way until Foxpaw heard the sound of pawsteps approaching from the other side of the border, accompanied by the scent of a RockClan cat. He would have kept moving, but something about the other tom's scent was faint, yet familiar, and it was almost like the scent of...TreeClan. Foxpaw might have passed it off as the tom simply having patrolled this area before, but he recognized the scent, and that's what made him halt and look at the newcomer. It took him another moment to place the slightly familiar scent, but soon he realized it was the scent of Lynxheart, his mentor, and somebody else he didn't know.
He narrowed his eyes. Why would this RockClanner have met up with Lynxheart, likely more than once, since he could detect the scent on him? How did they know each other. Foxpaw normally would not start any conflict, since he had done nothing wrong, but this information puzzled him, and he wanted to know the reason behind it. Besides, the newcomer was getting a little too close to the border for comfort. "Who are you? What is your connection to the TreeClan warrior, Lynxheart?" he asked, voice sure and unwavering, tail lashing to show that he did not want to fight but would readily defend himself if he had to.

Spruceclaw was padding along the treeclan border looking for his kids or aster or lynx. as he prowled along he caught a familiar scent. it was lynxhearts. as he rounded a tree he froze this wasn't lynxheart it was a young tom. his eyes narrowed and his furr bristled as attached as he was to certain treeclanners he still didn't trust the strangers. "Keep your fur on kid. lynxhearts a ... friend." he mewed glaring down at the cat.

Foxpaw raised an eyebrow and let a out a thoughtful hmm, clearly not surprised or impressed by the stranger's apparent hostility towards him. His tail stopped moving and he sat down, showing not intimidated in the slightest, and rather dismissive of the older tom's aggresive display. It could be foolish to leave himself so exposed, but he was confident that he would be able to hear and react to anything the RockClanner might do quickly enough to defend himself. "A friend?" he repeated, still curious. "What business do you have being friends with somebody from another clan?"

Spruceclaw smirked as the young tom tried to play cool. spruceclaw supressed a laugh thus cat was probably an apprentice and spruceclaw was an experienced warrior. he could easily rip the kid in half but thw kid had guts and spruceclaw respected him a little more for that even if he was in way over his head and foolish. "Well kid if being friends with someone from anotheer clan is a crime I've done worse. how do you know lynxheart?" he mewed curiously.

Foxpaw rolled his blind eyes at the tom's overconfident quip. He found the hint of arrogance in the other's voice grinded on his ears. Indeed, he was likely an experienced warrior, but being too confident in your abilities was a weakness, one that Foxpaw would be able to exploit if need be. If Spruceclaw was underestimating Foxpaw because of his blindness, it would be all the more easier to surprise him and escape. Even so, he hoped it wouldn't come to that, "Oh? Have you? That would explain the other TreeClanner's scents on you," Foxpaw meowed calmly. He dismissed the comment after with a shrug, not pressing on what other deeds Spruceclaw might have done. It was not important.
"She's my clanmate," Foxpaw stated bluntly, as though it was a stupid question- and in a way, it was. "I'm her apprentice. Since you seem to have been around her so much perhaps you've heard of me." He straightened himself up a little more. "I am Foxpaw. Lynxheart has never mentioned a RockClanner- who are you?"

"Oh so you're the disrespectful brat." he mewed with a smug grin. "I'm spruceclaw and its probably likely your mentor didn't mention me. she wouldn't want to many kids like yourself knowing my connection with treeclan." he mewed sensing the hostility between the two rising even if spruceclaw was the one mostly doing the antagonizing.

Foxpaw raised an eyebrow at Spruceclaw's jab at him, somewhat confused by the accusation but mostly irritated that the warrior seemed to be trying to pick a fight with him. He rolled his blind eyes once more- how irresponsible was this tom? "Perhaps she didn't mention you because you're not as important in her life as you think," Foxpaw suggested with a shrug. "Or perhaps an immature and arrogant tom such as yourself simply isn't worth talking about." Foxpaw did well to hide his frustration, but there wasn't much to hide. He wasn't offended by a cat like Spruceclaw trying to bring him down, and Foxpaw wouldn't stoop to his level by lashing out in anger. Insults, fine, so long as he remained calm and undeterred.
"It was never my intention to be disrespectful towards Lynxheart- if I have done something to offend her I will do my best to amend my mistake, as she has earned my respect. The same, sadly, cannot be said for you. Antagonizing a mere apprentice is hardly becoming of a warrior."

"Wow! I thought id get you with that one." he mewed "you know kid you're alright." he mewed he was suprised that the apprentice had kept his cool. plus he didn't seem that disrespectful.

Foxpaw paused, as it hadn't occurred to him that Spruceclaw had merely been joking or testing him. "....thank you," he meowed, uncertainly at first, but he was quick to gain his composure. "...were you looking for Lynxheart?"

"Welll i heard that lynxheart wasn't sure if you even respected her. so i figured id give you a shot. you're not half bad kid." he mewed as he listened to the apprentice ask his question. "No i wasntt looking for lynx i was looking for someone else from your clan." he mewed tryin to stear clear of his family in the other clan.

Foxpaw nodded his thanks and made a mental note to be more polite to Lynxheart. He had no particular reason to admire her, but it was part of his responsibility to show some sort of respect for a warrior of his own clan- there was no reason she had given him to dislike her either. He...accepted her presence in his life, and tried to maintain a good relationship, without getting particularly close. He pushed those thoughts aside, however, since the reason behind Spruceclaw's visit was more intriguing at the moment.
"How many others from TreeClan are you acquainted with?" he asked innocently. He didn't know if he would go as far as attempting blackmail for an answer, but he was still curious.

"Oh... a few..." he mewed seeing that the apprentice was curios but that the young cat didnt want to appear that way. so, spruceclaw decided he wouldn't give more information than he had to for his sake and of his friends and family.

Foxpaw got the hint and decided to leave the subject be, at least for now. He nodded, considering the vague response, but there wasn't much he could analyze about Spruceclaw. "What's it like in RockClan?" he asked, a part of him genuinely curious in the differences between his own lifestyle and that of the RockClanner.

"Its actually a little boring." He mewed. "But then again most of the cats i know say its kind of boring. although its better now that my mates expecting. I miss when i was an apprentice though. when i had something everyday to get up and do. it was just me and dapplecloud ." He mewed a little envious of the apprentice before him.

While Foxpaw had to admit it hadn't been his best attempt at smalltalk, it seemed to have been effective enough. He sensed a small amount of something akin to envy in the older tom's voice as he mentioned missing apprenticehood, but Foxpaw didn't take it personally. "Congratulations to you and your mate," Foxpaw nodded respectively, as such congratulations was the customary response to learning of such a thing. "I imagine that life here isn't too different, other than the separate territory and diet. I've found ways to pass the time, though, since my training is nearing it's end."
