Willowpaw was out hunting, having already caught a vole, and was searching for more, despite that in this harsh weather, catching only one piece of prey was acceptable. She was getting somewhat annoyed, unable to find anything, and blaming it on her lack of skill. A real warrior would be able to sustain her clan, but a vole would hardly mean anything. She knew that Brightpaw and Almond were under fire for fighting, and Willowpaw had hurt Mudpaw and Aloepaw, and was afraid of Jackalstar coming after her next.
She noticed some patches of brown against the snowy white fields of Fireclan territory. Mudpaw. It was surprising to see him out in the territory, but perhaps his wounds were healing better than she thought they would.
Willowpaw approached him, making no attempts to be sneaky or hide herself, instead letting her paws crunch against the snow beneath her.
"Mudpaw," Willowpaw blinked. "I want to talk to you."

mudpaw had decided that he'd go out in the territory that day, wanting to be alone and get some fresh air, not to mention wanting to try and walk a little to see if it would make his shoulder less painful to move. at that very moment, however, he had finally decided to stop and just sit in the snow, looking around at the cold, white substance. it was difficult to believe that the snow and frost would soon be gone, melted and replaced with greener grass and warmer weather.
as the apprentice was staring, he heard footsteps and a familiar voice saying his name. he turned his head around to see willowpaw, someone he really wasn't too enthusiastic to speak to. he grumbled quietly and lifted himself to his paws, limping about two steps towards her, letting her walk the rest of the way.
"what about?" mudpaw continued to grumble, green eyes focused on the floor, "and make it quick."
-even though i've not made the thread yet, i'm probably just gonna go ahead and say this is after he goes to the medicine den just to make him being in the territory more realistic.-

Willowpaw noticeably had more wounds on her, specifically a long scratch on the side of her face, but nothing was too severe as to warrant a day's off or a trip to the medicine cat's den. They'd just blame her for getting in a fight, anyways, they wouldn't understand.
"Have you talked to Brightpaw?" Willowpaw asked, somewhat rhetorically. The two of them were bestest friends, of course they talked, she thought bitterly.
"She's mad at me. She won't say it, but I think she even hates me. She's kidding herself when she says that we can get back on track." She dug her claws into the ground, clearly upset. "You know, that was the one relationship I thought I could fix, but it's gone now. All because I decided to stand up to you, a cat who's tormented me since kithood."
Willowpaw wasn't sure what she was doing, talking to Mudpaw. It wouldn't fix anything, would it? "I don't know. I thought if I talked things out with you, then she might see that she's being unreasonable."

mudpaw sighed exaggeratedly, looking up at willowpaw through the tops of his green eyes, not bothering to move his head from it's bowed position, "of course i've talked to brightpaw," he said in a bratty tone, ears flattening to his skull.
he growled loudly when willowpaw began to blame him for ruining her one good relationship, "maybe you shouldn't have attacked me then," he stated, "maybe you should learn to take a joke and let things go rather than taking offense so easily!" he paused before beginning to speak again, "oh and by the way, i didn't torment you, i called you a name one time, that's not tormenting."
mudpaw lashed his tail, standing up on all fours again and raising his head to look as tall as possible, "well you're not doing a very good job of 'talking things out with me', so so far i', not very confident in your little idea of her being unreasonable," he began to mumble, "if someone fought your best friend, you'd be angry too, no?"

"I'm not saying that everything is your fault, or Brightpaw's fault, you're not listening!" Willowpaw snapped, her voice rising slightly, and eyes gaining a fury to them.
"You did torment me. You aligned yourself with Aloepaw and Almond, and you helped to make me an outcast in our group. Your actions made me suffer." Willowpaw continued. She couldn't believe that he would say that, it sounded completely mouse-brained. Her voice lowered, and she added more calmly, "And I don't mean that it's entirely your fault, or Aloepaw's, or Almond's fault that I'm like this. I just don't think it's fair that you three put me in a situation like this, and then blame me, and only me for lashing out."
She took in a deep breath, reminding herself of why she was talking to him. There wasn't any need to get angry, that would just make her want to attack him again, and Willowpaw wanted things to get better.
"No, I wouldn't be angry. I don't have a best friend, I don't have any friends, and don't deny that you're part of the reason why. I had to fight you, because I had to stand up for myself, because no one else was going to." Willowpaw hoped that she was getting her points across, and that he was getting that she really did want to talk.

mudpaw simply raised his brows and stared at willowpaw with unblinking eyes, waiting for her to finish whatever she was going on about now. she clearly was trying to say that it was all his fault... if she wasn't then she wouldn't be there yelling at him. he flicked his white-tipped ear in slight frustration.
he let out another angry sigh, going back to grumbling, "once again, you're contradicting yourself, willowpaw," he said, lashing his torn tail, "and i am blaming you for lashing out because although, yes, i do deserve to be beaten, you didn't have to over-react about one thing i did one time," he hissed.
mudpaw unsheathed his claws for a split second before sheathing them again and beginning to limp around willowpaw, starting to leave slowly, "i don't wanna talk to you anymore," he said, stopping himself for a second so he could speak, "and yeah, i do agree that you had to stand up for yourself, but you didn't have to be violent about it," he continued, "just leave me alone and go make yourself some friends, willowpaw, because it's obvious that your not getting any here with that attitude."

"How could I not use violence? It's the only thing that's ever gotten anyone to listen to me." Willowpaw had never just talked to a cat and had them change their minds about her. She'd tried talking to Brightpaw, and Brightpaw turned on her the second she did something that she didn't like. Obviously, talking would not prove her worth to anyone, she had to fight.
"It isn't over-reacting.. Or perhaps it was. But you hurt me then, and I hadn't done anything to you. What made it so that you didn't want me, but you were fine with being Brightpaw's friend? Obviously it was my fault, because you're capable of friendship, and I must not be, and.. Of course I over thunk it, I was younger when it happened, more vulnerable, and frail.." Willowpaw didn't like how Mudpaw was treating her, without care.
Willowpaw's face dropped as he turned to leave. She didn't want things to go back to the way they were, she didn't want to turn into a cruel, friendless cat. A worse Almondfire. Forming relationships would give her something to latch onto, a meaning, she needed it. "Don't go." She wouldn't stop him, but she wanted to. "I'm not.. done, we haven't accomplished anything, you aren't trying to understand me." Or at least, that's how it felt.

mudpaw stopped moving again and spoke back, "i did want to be friends with you, y'know," he said, referring to the time that they first met when they were kits, "i though you were alright and i was only joking when i called you that name," he explained, "i didn't think you were going to get so offended because of it... i never had any bad intentions towards you," he said, his voice still holding an angry tone.
he lashed his tail again, "no, i'm not trying to understand you," he replied, "because you're being difficult, now let me leave."

"How would I know that?" Willowpaw asked, exasperated. "How should I have known that you wanted to be my friend, when everyone else who's ever made fun of me has done it with malicious intent? I couldn't have known, and it wasn't unreasonable for me to go off of my past experiences." She was very frustrated with how dense Mudpaw was acting, but she didn't let it show, it wouldn't get her anywhere.
"I'm being difficult? How?" Willowpaw had done nothing but try to get Mudpaw to understand her, without shifting all of the blame off her herself, and he just didn't seem to care. "It isn't me, or any of us who are difficult. This is just a messy, awful situation."
"Leave if you want, I'm not stopping you."

-i would've replied earlier but i've had limited internet access-
mudpaw sighed, flicking an ear as he listened to what willowpaw had to say, tail swishing slowly from left to right. "if it's what you want," he began to swish his tail a bit quicker, "i'm sorry for that," he stated, moving another white paw forwards. "i just... don't get you, you're confusing," he paused, "this entire thing is just confusing.
"oh, and before i leave," mudpaw continued, his green eyes blinking, "what does this make us?" he asked, still unsure of where the two stood relationship-wise.

Willowpaw hesitated, her plumed tail brushing against the ground. "Thank you." She muttered when he apologized, not having expected to get this far with him. She had only ever made progress with Brightpaw, and even then, they had only found common ground over their siblings, it didn't feel like her sister actually responded to her.
"I.. I don't know." Willowpaw's mouth dried, and she desperately searched for an answer before Mudpaw lost interest and left. "I want things to change between us, but we're far from being friends. But.. We aren't enemies, I suppose."
