Almondfire hissed with frustration as she padded into FireClan territory. The she-cat raked her claws across thed ground and then sat down. She still had wounds from her fight with Brightpaw but she hadn't bothered to get them treated. She didn't care if she got an infection or even worse, death. FireClan would be better off without her anyways.
For her punishment she had to train and turn an apprentice called Batpaw into a fine warrior. "How am I supposed to do that. I'll be tempted to hurt him." She muttered. The apprentice was the son of two former highranks so if she did anything wrong, there would be war. 'Jackalstar is risking his clan's lives. He knows that I won't succeed.' Almondfire hissed with anger and sunk her claws deep into the ground.

i must become a lionheart
Batpaw had been told that while he was staying in Fireclan, he should try his best to become a marvelous warrior. That was his goal too. Sunfish and Robinstar would be so proud when he returned and showed off his skills, they would definitely keep him around then. The pale calico had been hunting desperately for this mentor that had been assigned to him. Someone named...Almondsomething? He'd never heard a name like that before. Probably a Fireclan specialty.
Luckily someone had been able to point out Almondfire as the warrior padded out into the territory, and the young tom had quickly followed. "Hey wait!" He called as he followed her, thinking this was some very important training he was going to be missing. "It's me Batpaw!"

Almondfire's ears pricked up to the voice of a young cat. She froze when he introduced himself. The spotted tabby looked over to see a pale calico tom. She grumbled and then sighed, trying her hardest to to snap at him. "What do you want, it's not time for training yet."
Almondfire didn't really want to have an apprentice but she had to. This was her punishment. She also kinda felt unconfortable that she was training a IceClan cat. The spotted tabby didn't really trust any of the other clans.

It wasn't time for training yet? Well, that seemed a little strange. It was always time for training in his mind. There were always things to learn. Not deterred by the she-cat's apparent displeasure, Batpaw pursued her.
"When is it time for training?" He asked cheerfully, tipping his head to the side. "I'm very excited! I only really know how to fish, and there aren't many fishes running about your prairies so it's kinda hard."

Almondfire then grumbled.
"Fine! We can train right now since your not leaving me alone about it." The spotted tabby sighed and then stared at him. "Of course there isn't any fish around here. You'll have to catch rabbits." Almondfire then spoke again. "I want you to run a few foxlengths forwards and back to me to warm up."

Batpaw brightened immediately, glad his mentor had decided that it was definitely time to train now. "Awesome!" He cheered enthusiastically, haunches wriggling. He was barely able to keep himself still but listened attentively to Almondfire's instructions. The tom gave several large nods. "Rabbits; right. Do you like rabbits?" He hoped so, otherwise she may have gone hungry a lot.
When Almondfire gave her instructions he beamed then raced away, bounding a few lengths ahead then turning and heading back. He was built for sprinting and jumping, unlike Fireclan cats with their long distance running. He wasn't sure if he could even keep up with a rabbit. "Done," he panted as he shot past Almondfire, tapping his mentor with his tail in a friendly way. "Now what?"

This apprentice was so happy and cheerful, not yet bullied by cats like Almondfire herself. 'Is this how Brightpaw had been, innocent and kind-hearted?' Almondfire and Aloepaw had practically ruined their siblings's lives. The warrior's ears pricked up at the young cat's question. "Umm yes. Rabbits are good. I'm not that picky." She muttered.
"Show me your hunter's crouch."

Batpaw nodded along amiably, still collecting his breath from the run. "Apparently I am," he admitted sheepishly. "But I've only ever tried fish. I'd really like to try rabbits!" He imagined the fur would feel very different to scales. Less smooth and maybe..hairy? Like eating a cat? That seemed weird.
Obediently Batpaw dropped into a hunting crouch. His Iceclan body was much stockier than a Fireclan's cats and his belly brushed against the ground. The tom's tail twitched. "Like this? It's not very comfortable."

Almondfire growled. "You'll try a rabbit after this training session if I think you did well enough, alright." The pale brown tabby stared as he dropped into a crouch. It was good for an IceClanner but for a FireClanner? FireClan had a different territory. They lived in a grassy area while IceClan lived in the mountains. "Good for your first try. Remember if you find some prey always stand down wind or else it will smell you."

The thought of trying fresh rabbit was an exciting one and Batpaw decided he would have to try his best to ensure it happened. He'd heard a few scary rumours about Almondfire but so far none of them seemed to be true, he found the warrior lovely and smart. The pale tom beamed at the praise, tail lashing in victory. "I'm remember!" He promised. "Can I try and hunt something real now?"

Almondfire was surprised.
He wasn't getting annoyed by her grumpy aditude and mean personality. Perhaps she could gain some allies like this. She smirked but not while looking at Batpaw, she was turned away from him. "Sure." The spotted tabby grumbled, twitching her tail. "Just don't scare off all the prey."

Batpaw was generally easygoing. There weren't many things that bothered him, other than other cats abusing each other. When it came to himself though, he wasn't quick to defend. Though Almondfire was far from 'warm', he did find her interesting and a valuable teacher, and he was far from offended.
"If I scare off the prey I'm not doing it right," he replied diplomatically. "So I wouldn't really deserve to catch it either way. But I'll try my best." He scented, the air, searching for something nearby. Dropping into his hunting crouch again, Batpaw began to slip away

Almondfire just nodded and watched. She didn't care if he caught the piece of prey or not. It would be better if he did because she didn't want her first apprentice to be an embarrassment to herself. She silently crept after him, taking light steps so she would scare off the prey around them. Almondfire didn't want to be the one to embarrass herself.
The spotted tabby's eyes were fixed on Batpaw, wondering how he would do.

(Not sure if the thread is still open considering it's kind of a training thing now, so tell me if you want me to delete this.)
Swanpaw had been practicing her hunting, and she had gotten fairly good. Nowhere near perfect, but it was rare that the prey got away from her. She had been stalking the scent of rabbit for some time now, though it always seemed to keep moving. She had finally caught up to it, and sprang straight into action. The rabbit began sprinting away, but Swanpaw was fast, and she was hot on the preys bunny tail. She was so distracted she didn't notice an apprentice in front of her, also seemingly stalking something. She looked up, trying to stop as she neared the tom. She slammed her front paws down, the rabbit dashing off in another direction as she flipped over herself. She landed directly beside him, groaning loudly. "Ugh, stupid rabbit."

Batpaw was glad Almondfire was letting him do this himself. He wanted to prove that he'd be a great apprentice and wouldn't bring her any embarrassment, after all. He was so close to the bird too, there was no way he'd miss it. Then, from out of nowhere a white she-cat came flying through, scaring off his prey. With a hiss of indignation the pale calico raced after the bird, beginning to flutter into the air. With a surge of confidence Batpaw remembered that this he could do. Iceclan cats were born for jumping and climbing. Bunching his powerful hing legs, Batpaw sprung as the bird continued to fight for leverage, catching its skinny feet. He used his weight to drag the thing back to earth and quickly killed it. It wasn't as neat a kill as he would have preferred though.
He glanced back at the older apprentice, ears flicking in exasperated annoyance. "Lynx dung," he cursed quietly, disappointed he hadn't been able to prove himself to Almondfire. The knowledge that he would have caught the rabbit made it even worse. "What in the world were you doing? You're going to hurt yourself flying about like that," Batpaw chastised, then carried the bird over to Almondfire proudly. "I did it!"
