Willowpaw was devolving. The once healthy, strong, and fiery she-cat was hardly functioning- ever since her fight with Mudpaw and argument with Brightwing, Willowpaw had lost control over her life. Despite having friends, Stormsong and Swanfrost, she was at rock bottom. She hated everything, and above anything, Willowpaw hated herself. It felt like the few relationships she had built could crumble at a moments notice, and that no matter how hard she worked and how much she contributed to the clan, she would always remain a burden.
Willowpaw was starting to spend less time in camp. She wasn't running away from her problems, Willowpaw was instead spending every waking moment hunting or practicing fighting. The apprentice spent hours looking for prey in the harsh leaf-bare, and would not eat unless she was satisfied she'd caught enough for the clan. Sleep rarely occurred, and when it did, it was short and troubled.
Currently Willowpaw was stalking prey near the river, specifically a mouse. Willowpaw had yet to catch anything that day, and she refused to let this piece of prey get away from her. She pounced, but her tired paws slipped on the snow, causing her to skid forwards, and having nothing to grip onto, Willowpaw shot forwards, tumbling into the river.
Her body was too weak from exhaustion to support her, and Willowpaw found herself overtaken by currents, floundering helplessly- Snow was starting to melt, making the river stronger and deeper. She tumbled around, gasping for air and choking on water.
