Beetlekit frowned as Raccoonkit mentioned the move. She had briefly been told by her mother that she needed to be ready at a days notice to leave, though she still had no clue as to why. She supposed it didn't matter.
"Probably weird." Beetlekit answered, though she didn't really think it was a question. At the mention of the sunset she nodded, a smile finding its way on her face. "It really is... it gets me thinking."

Raccoonkit gazed at Beetlekit for a moment. "We'll find out when we're apprentices." The brown tabby blinked in thought. Depending on how long the journey took she would be an apprentice's age by the time they reached the new camp. Patience wasn't her virtue. Raccoonkit wanted to learn and be a bigger help to her clan. Beetlekit would most likely be of apprentice age too. This thought pleased her. They could train together.
The older kit was about to tell her friend about her thoughts, but stopped when her friend spoke. "What do you think about?" Raccoonkit moved her paws out in front of her. She rested her head on her paws.

Beetlekit continued to stare at the sunset, her muzzle twisting in thought. "Well..." She paused, trying to collect her thoughts. "I guess it just makes me realize how little things matter. It doesn't matter if you're ugly, or friendless, or slow, or small. At the end of the day, the sun still sets, and in the morning, it's always going to come back. Life moves on whether you're ready to aswell or not, and there's no point in dwelling about the past. Each day holds something different, something beautiful." She finished, looking towards Raccoonkit. "What do you think about?"

Raccoonkit blinked at Beetlekit. The older kit listened intently to her friend. It pleasantly surprised her that her friend had such philosophical viewpoints. It was refreshing from the other kittens in the clan. She had to admit that it wasn't often she thought this way, but now she knew she had someone to discuss it with.
"Every day is a new start," Raccoonkit agreed. "I think about what I'm going to be in the future. I wonder what kind of apprentice and warrior I'll grow up to be. It's a little terrifying, but I like to imagine all the possibilities." Raccoonkit twitched her ears and in her amber eyes appeared a gleam, "I don't have much of a past to dwell on." The brown tabby released a mrrow of laughter at her awful joke.

Beetlekit nodded, listening intently. She honestly couldn't say she thought much about her future, she liked to live in the present. Not that thinking of the future was a bad thing. Beetlekit smiled wider at the awful joke, letting out a few chuckles. They were genuine. She wasn't laughing at the joke, more at the fact Raccoonkit had even said it. "What kind of warrior do you think you'll be?" She questioned. Beetlekit already had a few ideas as to what kind of cat Raccoonkit would grow into.

Raccoonkit's eyes twinkled at Beetlekit. The older kit was grateful that the joke earned a few giggles. Her sense of humor was dry, but she was glad that someone else found them funny. It reassured Raccoonkit that someone would like her enough to put up with her jests. Still, Raccoonkit wanted to be cautious; she didn't want to overdo it.
"I hope to be a passionate, knowledgeable, and skillful warrior," Raccoonkit announced. "Today, I made a decision that as I grew up I was going to spend time playing with kits," Raccoonkit blinked at Beetlekit. "I know that warriors are busy, but I think they could spend more time with us. It'd be nice to know more about being an apprentice." Raccoonkit's amber eyes filled a little with sadness. "Or our mothers spent time with us." Raccoonkit rested her head on her paws, "I want to be active in my kits' lives too."

"I don't doubt that you will be." Beetlekit responded honestly, stretching her paws out in front of her and resting her small head on them, much like Raccoonkit had. She never meant to copy other cats, though it was natural for her to try and be like whoever she was talking to. She found that it made her more compatible with others.
Beetlekit blinked, surprised by Raccoonkits sadness. She had never really minded that she didn't know her mother personally, or her father for that matter. "I didn't know you cared about that kind of stuff." She said quietly. "I suppose it would be nice to know some older cats, to have some good figures to look up to."

"Thank you," Raccoonkit solemnly stated. To Raccoonkit, Beetlekit had just paid her a high compliment. Raccoonkit curiously watched Beetlekit copy her and wonder why the smaller kit had done so. The older kit felt like she had taught Beetlekit something; a wave of pride washed over her. Raccoonkit thought she would be good at teaching others. Maybe she would be get an apprentice when she became warrior.
Raccoonkit lifted her head and looked at the sun. It was almost behind the earth now. "I was adopted by Brackensky," Raccoonkit glanced at Beetlekit, "She wasn't around much for me. I think it was because I'm not her own kits," Raccoonkit felt a small pang of jealousy. "I hope to find a cat whom I can look up to." Amber eyes blinked.
"What about you? What kind of warrior do you want to be?"

Beetlekit looked towards her sadly, hesitantly placing a tail on her back. "I'm really sorry to hear that." Her voice was soft, softer than usual. She hadn't realized Raccoonkit had been adopted, and she could only imagine what that must feel like. She wanted to ask her why, though she assumed Raccoonkit either didn't know, or would tell her in her own time. She didn't want to push her.
Beetlekit pulled her tail away, curling it around her side at Raccoonkits question. "I just want to be reliable. I don't want cats to ever feel like I've let them down, and I want my clan to know they can trust me, and that I'll always do my best for them." She didn't really hope for anything else. Sure, she wanted to be kind, and liked, but those things hardly mattered in comparison.

Amber eyes found brown paws. "Thanks," Raccoonkit muttered. The older kit didn't know anything about her parents. Just that she was found on the territory. She tried not to think about it. It only brought up more questions and sadness.
"Those are admirable qualities," Raccoonkit blinked. "I think you'll make a great warrior."
Raccoonkit stood, glancing down at Beetlekit. "I think we should back." She looked for a smaller ledge next to theirs. It took a second due to the failing light. She pointed it out, "I think we can use it to get down." She gingerly jumped on it then down to the ground. Turning around she found Beetlekit. Raccoonkit was ready to help her friend.

Beetlekit smiled softly at the compliment, taking it to heart. It meant a lot that Raccoonkit thought that, and she didn't find a hint of doubt in her eyes about the subject either. She hoped she would make a great warrior someday, though for now she had to worry about becoming an apprentice.
"Yeah, I'm getting tired." She admitted, and at the mention of it yawned. Beetlekit watched Raccoonkit hop down with ease, shuffling her paws anxiously. Getting up wasn't so hard, but Beetlekit had never been anywhere near graceful getting down. She swallowed, gingerly jumping into the ledge. She landed on it, all but her hind leg. She lost her balance, falling off, hoping that Raccoonkit would manage to somehow catch her.

Raccoonkit dove the instant she saw Beetlekit's hind leg not make it to the ledge. The older kit may not have been strong enough to catch Beetlekit, but Raccoonkit could break Beetlekit's fall. "Don't be afraid to dig your claws into my fur to hold on to me!"

Beetlekit squeaked slightly in alarm, though was slightly reassured when Raccoonkit came to her rescue. Beetlekit didn't do as she was told, instead kind of just allowing her body to do whatever it wanted. If she tried to catch herself, that meant hurting Raccoonkit in the process.

"Beetlekit!" Raccoonkit was underneath her. She felt the weight of Beetlekit hit her. The older kit's legs strained at the force of impact, but she held. Raccoonkit felt Beetlekit slip and she quickly rolled underneath so Beetlekit gently landed on the ground. The pain screamed from her legs. Raccoonkit closed her eyes and slowly breathed.
In a few moments she tried to get up. Pain yowled at her, but she stood. The usually graceful she-kit was a little off balance. "Are you okay?" She nosed Beetlekit.

Beetlekit scrambled off the ground as soon as she could, hissing lightly in pain when her hind leg hit the ground. She must have scraped it when she fell off the ledge. "Are you?" Beetlekit threw the question back at her, sniffing at Raccoonkits pelt. She could smell blood, though she was pretty sure it was coming from her leg. It was only a few minor scratches, nothing she would bother the medicine cat with.
