Swiftpaw Hickorykit was laying on her back, paws neatly crossed over her chest. The sky was cloudy overhead and she could comfortably look at the grey mass without hurting her eyes. In the open land of Fireclan it as such a rare occurrence that Hickorykit was taking the time to enjoy it. With a pleased sigh she lay back, tipping her head even further. As she did she caught a wisp of ginger fur. "Swiftkit, is that you?" She asked curiously, not bothering to look for herself.

Swiftkit had just been given the okay to go outside, and had embraced it openly. He'd darted out of the nursery, zipping past every cat in sight. Though, someone had called him out by name. He quickly turned back around and scurried over to Hickorykit's side, bouncing in place. "Hi, Hickorykit!" He chirped. His sister seemed to be his polar opposite, perfectly content to lay still, as opposed to Swiftkit who was always in motion. Even when he was sleeping, or at least trying to.

When Swiftkit came closer she raised her paws and tried to clasp them over his cheeks. "Where are you going?" She asked, knowing how hyperactive her brother could be. Sometimes it seemed like Swiftkit had to be tied to the ground to keep him still. Hickorykit was certainly active but she also had some amount of patience. "You wanna lay down with me?" She was almost certain he'd refuse.

Swiftkit was surprised when his face was suddenly being grasped by Hickorykit. He'd stopped all out bouncing, but his tail was still waving back and forth behind him, with all four of his paws fidgeting all over the place, his ears perking up only to fold back down. "I'm not going anywhere!" He chirped in response. "Uh... I don't think I can?" He said, sounding somewhat awkward about his answer.

It felt a little cruel to keep Swiftkit still so Hickorykit quickly let him go. She rolled onto her stomach and peered at her brother warmly. "You're an odd one," she purred with an exasperation shake of her head. She half hoped Swiftkit would learn some control as he aged, though she disliked wishing such things for the tom. Better for him to be happy the way he was.
She bounced onto her paws, flexing them experimentally. "Right, I'll move with you then. What do you want to do?"

Swiftkit returned to bouncing in place as soon as his face was released by Hickorykit. He tilted his head as his sister rolled onto her stomach. He huffed. "I'm not weird!" He declared loudly, sounding a tiny bit defensive. Maybe he wasn't so great at staying still... That didn't mean anything! Well, it didn't mean anything bad! It probably meant he'd be a fantastic warrior who'd never get tired! Yeah! That sounded better in his head.
"I dunno! I just like bouncing and running around!" It honestly didn't take too much to make Swiftkit a happy kitten.

Hickorykit smiled at his brief offense, not thinking it anything serious. "I said odd," she corrected absently, flashing him a mischievous smile. Hickorykit flexed her paws into the ground, curling her tail under her haunches. With a thoughtful hmm she sat upon the tip of her tail, a habit she usually did when coming up with an idea.
If Swiftkit liked bouncing so much, the proper solution was to let him bounce. "Do you think you could jump over me?" She asked curiously. The mottled tabby ducked lower to the ground to provide a smaller jump. "How high can you go?"

Swiftkit eyed Hickorykit suspicious. "Isn't that the same thing?" He questioned, thinking the words essentially amounted to the same. He pouted at Hickorykit's smiles of mischief. Was she making fun of him...?! He couldn't really tell, so he quickly decided to be offended anyway. Just in case! He wasn't sure what was going on in his sister's head, he kinda wished he did.
He blinked. "Uh, yeah! Sure!" He bent his legs as far as they would go, to spring him upwards over Hickorykit. He stumbled a bit upon the landing, and landed on his stomach. He pouted, as his tail thumped impatiently against the ground.

Hickorykit wasn't entirely sure if it was or wasn't, but she'd gone this far so she had to continue bluffing. "Of course not," she said with more confidence than she felt. "Strange has more negative meaning. I think you're odd, meaning different. But in a good way." She tipped her head, peering at Swiftkit. "I was going to say 'special' but most people find that even more insulting." It was too difficult to find a word that wouldn't insult Swiftkit but would still convey how she felt about him. Perhaps that was a bad thing. Hickorykit sighed. "I just think you're unique. Don't let anyone take that away from you."
Hickorykit's head whipped around as her brother leaped. She let out a trill of victory when he made it, though it turned into laughter rather quickly. "You did it!" She raised herself slightly to make the the jump harder. "How high do you think we can go?"

Swiftkit huffed as he pushed himself to his paws, shaking the dirt out of his fur. He went back to his bouncing in place.
Swiftkit's bouncing seem to slow, though he was still moving up and down by slightly bending and unbending his legs. "In a good way?" He repeated, as a sort of sparkle began to appear in his eyes. Unique... Weird in a good way... That sounded kind of nice, being different from other cats in a nice way. "Okay! I think I can live with that!" He sounded much more satisfied, now that Hickorykit had stated it in a different manner.
Then he blinked. "Uh, okay!" He squeaked, and jumped over his sister again. This time he still stumbled, and stumbled about a tail length or two... But managed to stay on his paws. "W-Whoa!" He let out a sigh of relief when his position stabilized. Then he whipped around and started bouncing for joy with a wide smile.
"That was better, right?!"

Hickorykit let out a sigh as her meaning finally came across. She'd never considered that she would have to change her manner of speaking for the different cats around her. It was a new skill she would have to work on, she decided. The tabby gave an affirmative nod, glad Swiftkit was still smiling.
Hickorykit purred with pride as Swiftkit once again flew over her. "That's amazing!" She cheered, lashing her tail. "Want to try again?" She raised up till she was standing normally, a challenge in her blue eyes. "Your warrior name should be Swiftbird or something, you're flying!"

Swiftkit grinned. "Thanks!" He thought it was pretty cool that he was a good jumper! The thought that Fireclanners were supposed to be runners didn't cross his mind. Still, it made him ecstatic to be so good at jumping! Then he nodded excitedly. "Yeah, yeah!" He chirped in response to... Well... Everything Hickorykit had said. It was a response that covered a lot of things!
Then Hickorykit raised the challenge and he tried again. He did technically make it over, but he wasn't paying attention to where he put his hindlegs. He barely tripped over Hickorykit and he tumbled onto the ground again. "Oof...."

In a way Swiftkit had and hadn't answered her question and Hickorykit restrained herself from huffing in exasperation. It probably wasn't a bad thing that Swiftkit liked to do things fast, but even fast talking? Some of his habits could likely get him into trouble with age. She half worried for her brother, though assumed he'd mellow more as he grew.
As Swiftkit leaped again he appeared to make it, but his hindlegs clipped the top of her back. Hickorykit swayed with the momentum before also falling to her side, chin hitting the dust. "Bleh...," she said, only mildly irritated. "Maybe next time we can practice on a branch or something." She rolled over, realizing she was once again lying on her back in camp. "You'll have to teach me to jump like that Swiftkit. I don't have any special talents like you."

Swiftkit looked to see that he'd accidentally knocking over his sister. He had the decency to look sheepish. "Sorry, Hickorykit..." Then he immediately sprang back up on his paws, and nodded his head fiercely. "Yeah, that sounds like a better idea!" He agreed. He'd rather not accidentally hurt someone else again... Especially his family.
He then shook his head fiercely. "Nuh uh, you've got plenty of talents! You can sit still! I can't do that!" He pointed out. "You're really smart, too! I can try to teach you to jump, but I'm not sure how good I'd be!"

Hickorykit let out a good-natured huff. "It's ok." She'd far from hurt herself after all, Swiftkit had taken as much of a tumble as she had. Hickorykit jumped to her paws once again, plumed tail waving. She tipped her head as Swiftkit described being able to sit still as a talent. Perhaps he really meant 'patience', which didn't sound like such a bad skill to have.
Her head tipped. "We're only kits. I'm going to be much smarter one day, and you'll probably be able to jump high as a tree." It was an exaggeration but Hickorykit said it brightly nonetheless. "Perhaps our mentors will teach us when we're apprentices."
