Midnightkit jumped back onto her paws and couldn't help laughing. Oakkit was covered in dust and he looked like a totally different cat. Looking at her own pelt, realized that her black and white pelt was covered in dust too. "I'd say that was a success! How did you learn that stuff?" Purred Midnightkit, padding to Oakkit. Suddenly, stopping halfway. "Do you still want to battle or do you want to put it off for a little while?"

F licking his tail with a grin, Oakkit nodded. "Sure, we can put it off," he said, giving himself a good shake, throwing lots of dust into the air around them. He smiled at her pelt, and wondered what he had looked like. Obviously amusing, since she laughed. "I learned from my father. He was really skilled."

Padding to sit in front of Oakkit, Midnightkit began to lick the dust out of her fur. listening to Oakkit, Midnightkit looked up, a worried look on her face, her whiskers twitching. "What do you mean about 'was'?"

A sad look gave over Oakkit. "I'm not sure if he's still alive or not. I'm sure he is, but I left him when I shouldn't have. Maybe he left me, I'm not sure. We were at a battle, and I had been there, watching him. When it was over, I thought that I couldn't go back home with him and sit and wait to die." That sounded depressing. Oakkit wasn't even sure if it was really true, he wasn't sure he believed it himself. It was hard to explain, really. He just hoped his father was still okay. "My mom died in a battle."

Midnightkit felt bad about asking Oakkit the question now. She softly padded to sit beside Oakkit, gently placing her tail on his shoulders. "Well, I guess we are a lot more in common than I thought." She meowed quietly, "I lost my parents too." Thinking about Oakkit's story, Midnightkit added, "Not in the same way, but..." She shivered, remembering the scene. Flicking her ear, as if trying to shake off the memory, Midnightkit asked, "What was your father like?"

O akkit smiled at her small gesture of kindness, feeling comforted. He was surprised to near that her parents had also died, though he was quite certain that his father is still alive. "My father is a very skilled warrior, and he is extremely tall. He is wise, and I found that he will make decisions that he feels are best for the clan, even if the decision does not seem to look as if it is the right one. All he thinks about is the safety of those he must protect."

Listening to Oakkit, Midnightkit could imagine his father. "He sounds like a great cat." Midnightkit mewed, gazing at Oakkit with her green gaze. Flicking the tip of her tail, she added, "Your mother? Was she a lot the same?" Quickly flicking her eyes away, "Sorry, you don't have to answer that one."

O akkit sighed. "No, it's all right. My father never talks about her, never mentions her name. I can barely remember her, with her sweet smile and shining blue eyes." He gave a small smile, trying to remember his mother. "She had a silky voice," he added, not really remembering anything but her face and her voice. Then he started inferring. "I bet she was an amazing warrior."

"She sounds sweet." Midnightkit meowed softly. Thinking of her own mother, soon realizing that she didn't really remember anything about her. Long golden fur, Midnightkit remembered, beautiful green eyes. Midnightkit looked up at the sky, wondering where they both were. The memory slammed into her again, the rain, the thunder. Midnightkit rolled her shoulders, trying to push away the pain. She could still hear the screeching in her ears.
Shaking her head, Midnightkit realized that Oakkit was still sitting beside her. Looking back at him, she gave Oakkit a slight smile. Hoping that he couldn't tell that it was a fake smile, Midnightkit asked, "Did you ever really get to know your parents well?"

M idnightkit seemed as if she became distant for a few seconds, but she came back quickly, offering a smile. It seemed half forced, but Oakkit shrugged that away as he returned her smile. Her next question sparked a small flame of sadness within him. "I knew my father well, I just wish I could've known my mother better," he said, a clouded look filling his eyes, but he kept his smile.

The grateful feeling in Midnightkit's belly for distracting Oakkit, soon hollowed out into shame. She instantly knew that she asked the wrong question, she could tell by the look in Oakkit's eyes. "S-sorry." Midnightkit mewed anxiously, in her mind she scolded herself, Mousebrain! "I'm just..." She couldn't finish her sentence. She knew she was about to say 'distracted' but then thought better of it. Midnightkit shuffled her paws, and tried not to meet Oakkit's gaze.

O akkit took a slight shaky breath, then relaxed. "No, it's okay. You're just curious. I would be, too." He didn't want her to feel bad, and he liked talking about his parents. But it just, hurt, a lot. He wished he didn't leave his father. He wished his father would come to Treeclan, but that would never happen. His father would never leave his own, remote clan to join one so far away.

Midnightkit felt grateful for Oakkit not being to angry. Sheepishly looking back at him, Midnightkit ask a-not-as-bad question, "What made you join TreeClan?"
(Sorry, sooo short)

T his question was easy to answer, especially for Oakkit. He smiled, "It reminds me of home." It was that simple. His home was located deep into the woods, in a very remote location where not many cats ever dared to go.

Carefully listening to Oakkit, Midnightkit felt thankful that he had enjoyed the question. Returning the smile, Midnightkit felt more comfortable around Oakkit. He seemed like a nice cat. He is willing to talk about his past, Midnightkit thought, gazing at the trees. Taking a deep breath, Midnightkit quietly mewed, "Even though my old home didn't really look like this, the trees make me feel safe." That was all she was willing to say at the moment. She didn't feel ready to tell her whole story. Not yet.
