Red ear fins lowered and a loud hiss escaped Allure's mouth as the humans approached again. Though one face was familiar, there were too many new ones for her to care all that much. For all she knew the boy could have been the reason she was trapped anyway. The red mer was painfully aware of the invisible barriers on each side of the habitat, pressing in on her and keeping her from escaping back to the endless seas. Not to mention the other mers that were trapped in the prison with her. All from other shoals and clans, each different. As if Allure didn't feel cornered already. Fangs bared, the scarlet mer let out another hiss, successfully scaring a few of the humans a bit, though she knew she wouldn't be able to do much more. She couldn't attack them, so trying to get them to leave her alone had proven to be a hopeless cause. They just kept coming back anyway. Her fins flared in defense for another moment before her long tail propelled her away like a rocket, shooting into the cave that she had claimed, concealing herself from the onlooking creatures. Hopefully soon enough they would get bored. *** Tristan Davenport hadn't flinched as the scarlet mer hissed loudly at him. It distressed some of the others that the creature was so ill-willed towards humans, but Tristan thought it was natural. She, he was fairly certain the mer was female, was an intelligent creature, as were the other specimens he had managed to obtain. The scientist was looking forward to deciphering the secrets of the species, though still disappointed that the one they had contained the longest was still so resilient. It had been costly obtaining some of the other mers, money that had come straight out of Davenport's pocket. It would be worth it, the man was sure. There was so much to discover. Turning back around, Tristan spoke aloud. "I apologize for that display. This one isn't exactly eager to be here. We know that that was a defensive display, but other than that, little to nothing has been discovered about this particular species of mer," he explained. "We have come to figure out that there are many different species, though the actual differences, other than appearance, have yet to be deciphered. Each came from a different part of the sea." After pausing from a moment, he continued. "We hope you all can help us."

"Um, Mr. Davenport, sir? What do you exactly need help with?" asked Steve. Steve was a normal guy, until he went to the beach one day. There he saw a beautiful gi-er, mermaid. He started to talk with her, and soon befriended her. He would see her weekly, until one afternoon. Where he usually saw her, was a flyer that said, "HELP NEEDED AT THE LOCAL AQUARIUM!". Steve instantly thought of Allure, and thought she must have been captured. Lucky for him, he had a bachelor's degree on marine biology.
So there he was, apparantly studying the mers. When they came to Allure, he instantly knew her. Steve flinched at her hiss, and the person next to him chuckled. After his question, he took a peek at Allure, and waved, hoping she would notice.

("He started to talk with her"... That would be a very one sided conversation at first xD)
"Simply cataloging the species, figuring out it's characteristics, and the like," Davenport replied. "This is a very important discovery, but I still don't want it to be public until we know more. Enough to be confident about what they do." Steve's sudden interest in pursuing marine biology at the aquarium had been unexpected, but Davenport had accepted his offer even so. He would be useful in determining the ways of the mers, and to be honest, he needed all the help he could get.
"We don't seem to be getting anywhere with this one, however. Perhaps the other mers will be a little more outgoing," Davenport suggested, half as a joke. "They tend to keep away from one another, probably trying to stay out of each other's territory or something similar." Tristan then led the group to the next section of the tank.

In the corner of a large tank, surrounded by glistening aquarium rocks, was a sleek, long, thin-tailed Cave Mer huddled up with a glare streaked on her face. She had given up on hissing and had instead taking to casting furious, blazing threats through her placid expression. The last of the Cave Mers, Coral, was located directly next to another Mer who seemed to be keen on aggression. Stupid creature, Coral though bitterly, although she wished deeply for hope. The humans seemed most stupid, however. Coral resided in deep water caves, near the deepest parts of the ocean but at least a mile above, hence the species name. For some reason, the Twotails, as Coral called them, that had caught her insisted she belonged in open stretches. Later the humans had added caves, but Coral hated the fake plastic-like stone it was carved with. She preferred the long, dangerous ones, not the smooth human-cut ones. When the other Mer darted into her cave, Coral felt a growl shake her, but instead she spoke in a kind voice "Hello," she began. "I'm Coral, last of the Cave Mers." She let out a slightly amused grunt. "So much for the caves." Coral didn't care if the humans saw her communicating. She knew already that they couldn't understand each other.

Allure almost let out another hiss but she decided perhaps not to anger the other mers trapped with her. Silently, she poked her head out of the cave, searching to see if the humans had left yet. They had already seemed to move on with the rest of the exhibit. She couldn't help feeling a bit of betrayal from the human she thought she had bonded with. She should have expected it from a human, and she was angry at herself for being so stupid.
The scarlet mer blinked at Coral, understanding what she said, but reluctant to actually reply. She knew how to speak, but after leaving her shoal she didn't really have anyone to talk to. She nodded silently, still debating whether to open her mouth. She slipped out of the small cave, swimming around in circles for a bit as she stretched her tail and tried to show she would rather not pick a fight.
"Allure," the scarlet mer stated simply, speaking her native tongue. It was surprising how all mers shared the same language, with minor differences.

Coral nodded and stretched her tail out, enjoying the feel of her muscles getting a break from being cramped up for so long. With a sigh, the red-headed mer pushed herself upright and began swimming around the tank and a slow stroll. There were other mers, she noticed, but there was also a human that seemed to be taking a keen interest in Allure. Curiosity overcame Coral, and she allowed herself to swim closer, cautiously. She had the feeling the human would become shocked that she had approached it, possible that they would turn and call for the others, so she stiffened as she rested her hand on the cold glass, slightly warm with the air on the other side. Coral's deep aqua eyes watched the human, her long hair flowing out behind her. She didn't speak or anything else, she just wanted to know what a human's reaction would be to her presence since none of the other mers seemed willing to do so. Perhaps they aren't as terrible as expected? she thought silently as her eyes scanned the human with great intelligence and curiosity.

Steve stayed at Allure's tank, and mouthed, "I will get you out of here". He followed the group to the next mermaid. Steve wasn't all that fascinated in the mers. He found them first, and he didn't have to hear where they were found, or what they looked like.

Allure tipped her head to one side curiously. She had kept back from the glass, unwilling to come near any human, even the male who she had spent time with. It seemed he was trying to convey some type of message towards her silently, but the scarlet mer couldn't decipher what he was trying to say. She responded in a glare, moving her hands in different motions and shapes, the only way of the human language she could partially understand.
"Your fault," the scarlet mer thought that having such simple hand gestures representing vocal expressions they made was stupid, but it was the only way she could partially give the human the message. Her brown eyes narrowed, untrusting and cold. Her blonde hair spilled out around her shoulders and flowing around in the water as she swam away again, making it so that she was unseen by anyone on the other side of the glass.

Misty growled. She banged against the "invisible" barrier. The land-walkers gabbled and talked among themselves, and she bared her fangs. The smooth, colorful stones on the bottom did nothing to give her a weapon. Murky green eyes peered at them. There was a patch of seaweed. She grimaced. It would have to do. Her scales rippled and she disappeared. To the land-walkers it would seem as if she had disappeared. Only angry green eyes gleamed from the seaweed. Glancing around, it seemed as if her hair was rippling seaweed. She saw a scarlet mer. "Hello." She hissed.

(Anyone can pretend to be the human Coral was watching)
The Cave Mer blinked as she spun at the voice. "Hello," she replied with a calm voice. "I just wanted to see these stupid Twofin's reaction to me being near the glass. I don't think they've noticed." Coral smirked. "They are too stupid, huh?" She continued to rest her pale hand on the glass, wondering if the human she had been watching would do anything. The last of her species had quickly realized that the humans and mers spoke different tongues, so Coral wasn't worried that they would eves drop.

"They're idiots." Misty hissed. "The moment they take us out into a "zoo" as they call it, to put us in their "sea shows" we'll escape." Misty lashed her tail.

"I agree," Coral replied. "They're just fishfood morons that think they own us. If I had the chance, I would sink my teeth into their jugular."

"Land-walkers." Agreed Misty. "Once my tribe gets their hands on them, they'll wish they'd never been born."

Coral grunted in reply and turned back to the glass and the human hovering outside it.

Misty flicked her tail disdainfully. The seaweed adorning her hair and scales waved in the water. She hated it here. This clear, cold water wasn't right. It shocked her that the other mers could live with this. Her kind lived in bogs and marshes, where dark water was everywhere. She swam up to Allure. "Hello." She hissed.
