(ah! this happened so fast!)
Jinta flicked her silvery blue tail anxiously, allowing a whine to escape between her clenched teeth. The humans were still standing there--outside the creation that seemed to contain the water--along with a couple other mers.
This, she thought, was the most disturbing part of her containment. She had not yet seen any other Moon Mers--she doubted there would be any, as she herself seemed the only one of her kind stupid enough to go so near the net-boats alone, still underage.
She narrowed her eyes and turned onto her back in the water, staring at the surface, where she'd been lingering since she had been tossed here.
There were too many land-dweller items in here. The sand was not as fine and mer-touched as that of the ocean--the coral formations were odd and different, and the ocean here was limited.
Water should not be limited.
"Ridiculous," she hissed to herself, rubbing at an eye and trying not to think about Ema. With a flick of her gossamer-like fin, she darted forwards to the front of the tank, level with and a tail-length away from them. She scowled and turned away, nervously flicking back and forth till she reached the cave that the crimson mer had claimed.
Inside there was one. The crimson mer which she'd seen already--she'd already classified her as a Coral Mer--the Moon Mers had plenty of association with them. She was prettier up close--her long blonde hair framed her face, and her odd red scales everywhere weren't as harsh as Jinta had first thought.
Jinta swallowed hard. "I knew I wasn't alone. But until we have a chance to escape, it would be... nice... to at least have allie sif not friends before there is a chance we can return to the ocean."
She paused for a moment, noticing the Coral Mer was a few years older than herself--at least half a decade more than her own 17 years.
"What's your name?"

Misty flashed a look at the shining, opaque mer. "Tell me, who are you?" She asked, blinking at the bright scales of the mer.

Allure blinked again, flinching a bit at the harsh words being flung at the humans. Not all of them were bad. The male hadn't seemed too bad at first at least. He seemed to care. Allure recognized the shimmering scales of a Moon Mer in front of her, peering into the cave she had claimed. "Allure," she repeated, getting a bit annoyed. Her ear fins flicked in a bit of annoyance, and her tail twitched, wishing to be able to swim away from the humans and escape. Upon realizing that the Moon Mer's intention was to be friends, however, Allure's brown gaze softened a bit. "Sorry," she murmured, having realized that she was acting cross for no reason. It had been her fault she had gotten caught, anyway. She should have stayed with her shoal and away from the humans. Letting out a sigh, the red mer drifted out of her hiding place and started searching for crabs or something else to eat. She had at least been able to show the humans her favorite meal, and they had placed crabs in the habitat for her to hunt. She only did while the twolegs weren't looking, however. Spotting the bright red shell of one nearby, Allure's fins twitched in excitement. She plucked it off the rock before it noticed and smacked it against the rock, effectively killing it. (I don't care how unrealistic that is, point is, she killed a crab and is gonna eat it xD) She used the rock again to disembody it's leg and slurped up the sweet meat inside hungrily. Realizing she hadn't offered to share, she snapped off another leg and held it out towards the Moon Mer. "Want some?" she asked, her voice slightly muffled from the leg still sticking out of her mouth. *** Tristan narrowed his eyes a bit as Steve hung behind, aware of him staring at the mers. One in particular he noted. The man had seemed particularly sensitive to the red mer's hiss, and was taking an interest in her. Tristan almost started to believe there was a connection, but shrugged the thought away. That was absurd. The older male spotted the different mers seeming to communicate, though what they were saying was impossible to make out. The man sighed slightly, brushing his brown hair out of his green eyes and heading on with the tour. He went down the hall and opened two double doors that led to the lab. There were all sorts of tables filled with beakers and liquids of all kinds, even some scales from some of the mers. Tristan had been careful to make sure that the only ones picked up for examination were ones that fell off. He never wanted to cause the creatures any type of pain. (End it there cause I can and my Tristan muse just withered and died.)

Coral frowned as the human she was watching walked away. Her hand slid off the glass, confused as to why the human hadn't taken an interest in her as she expected it to. With a shrug, she swam away from the glass and attempted to find something to eat; she was starving. After all, she had just arrived not a few days ago after being captured by a fishing boat.
*** Her hair was brown and her eyes a deep blue. She took a little time to study the mers, hanging at the back of the group, taking notes on the area with her dull pencil and 5-subject notebook. She sketched one also, a strange one that was mostly green and seemed discussed by the clean water. When the group moved on, Dr. Clappler, or Chloe as she insisted people call her, finished up the last detains of the mer's disapproving face then hurried after the others, black highs clacking as she hustled. Chloes quickly tightened the small blue bow in her hair and stepped into the lab. It was cool inside, refreshing after being in a warm, humid room full of trapped fish-like humans and thousands of gallons of water and raged faces - raged faces accept one, whom she didn't notice much. (Lol Coral) "Excuse me, Dr. Davenport?" Chloe began as she stepped up beside the research director. "It there anything I can do to help out?"

Misty watched in interest as Allure killed the crab. If she ever got back, maybe they could start doing that. To the dangerous crabs they had there. Not to eat. Her stomach growled. Fish were plentiful. She swam up, grabbed one, and started smashing it against the barrier. It took a while and it made her wince, but it did the job. *** The short, gray-haired woman stared at the mers from across the room. "The things we could do with them!"

The scarlet mer answered in a voice sharp as her fins. Allure.
The 'sorry' that arrrived a moment after was much softer, and Jinta relaxed a bit.
"It's fine." She paused, watching her kill the crab with strong arms. She gasped a bit--Moon Mers were strict vegetarians, due to their daily contact with much sea life. But this brutal mer fascinated her. She was almost tempted to say yes, just to see what it would taste like, but she thought of Ena.
"No, thanks." She took in a shaky breath as the land-dwellers finally left. "I'm Jinta."
Jinta bit her lip hard at the sound of another mer's voice, but she shifted her eyes from the scarlet mer to this one, easily identifiable as a Marsh Mer. Her long hair was green like seeweed, the same shade as her eyes, and her tail was a mixture of mottled shades of green and yellow. "Jinta," she said quietly, flicking a dark brown gaze back to the humans. "And you are?"

"Misty." She began tearing apart her fish, grinning at the humans.

Jinta floated close to the glass, near the newly-introduced Misty. "Nice to meet you," she said dazedly. She frowned at the severe looking gray haired female land-dweller watching them from across the room.
A chill ran up Jinta's scale-spotted spine, and she placed a thin hand on the glass, her eyes narrowed in an angry, confused motion.

Before Coral had left the glass much, she felt a slight shake of the water being shifted - Cave Mers, being as deep as they lived, had grown a sense of knowing when water is shaken or disturbed. The red-headed female flicked her tail, causing her to rotated quickly, and eyed the grey-haired female that had caused the disturbance. Unable to resist her curiosity, Coral cautiously allowed herself to drift forward, towards the elderly woman. Again, Coral rested her pale and on the glass to keep her from floating into the glass, and watched with deep green eyes.

(You guys could have gone on without me. I had little Allure muse.)
Tristan blinked and sat up, having been lost for a moment. He heard the senior scientists comment and was outrage. "The things we could do with them?" he echoed. "These aren't some tools to be used for your satisfaction. They are intelligent creatures who deserved to be treated with respect and studied. If you are here for any other reason other than to help bring these mers into the light than you must leave, now." His voice was stern, obviously insulted greatly by the woman's response.
Running his hand through his brown hair, the man looked back at Chloe and tried to calm himself down. "Yes actually. We know that the red one feeds mostly on crabs and fish, but the appetite is somewhat unknown for the others. Care to study their eating habits with me?"

"I'd love to," Chloe replied, taking up a clipboard, a pencil, and her thin blue notebook. Maybe we can just get to know these creatures better before we release them. I hope we don't keep the Mers. They don't deserve to be locked up like this. As much as Chloe wanted to just free them, she felt something tugging at her and telling her to wait. So, Chloe sat down in a chair and began recording the way the red mer prepared her food, ate it with delicate yet powerful fingers, and the way she acted.

Tristan followed, bringing his own notebook as well. He tapped it on his chin thoughtfully as he watched the Marsh Mer smash the fish against a rock. It seemed a bit much, to be honest. She seemed to be trying to put on a show for the humans, grinning evilly at them as she tore it apart. The red one, which Tristan had identified in his mind as a Coral Reef Mer, was seemingly more intelligent about her eating. She had cracked the shell of the crab at the pressurepoints to reach the meat inside. The mers were seemingly conversing with one another, speaking in a language that Tristan was unable to make out, or hear at all since the water muffled the noises. As far as facial expressions and body language went, the mers were surprisingly human. ***
Allure pricked her ears, looking up alertly as she realized the humans had returned and some were watching her. Deciding that being defensive wasn't doing any good, the mer cautiously approached the barrier, wondering if any of them knew the language she had learned. She turned herself upright again, waving her hands in what the humans took as the symbol for "wait" and she tapped her chin, showing she was thinking. What was it the humans did to greet each other? Finally remembering, the mer waved her hands in various motions, eventually able to translate it into one word. "Greetings."

Chloe narrowed her eyes thoughtfully, translating what the mer was saying. With a quick glance around, she approached the glass cautiously, attempting not to frighten the mer. "Hello," she replied, waving also to show what she was trying to say, With a smile, Chloe placed her pointer finger on her heart, and spoke her name. "Chloe. Clow-e. Chloe."

Tristan narrowed his eyes. The red mer was trying to communicate something...in sign language no less. While he didn't know how to understand it, it was impressive that the mer knew any human language at all. She must have had interaction with other humans before. "What's she saying?" he asked quietly as he slowly approached the glass. ***
Allure knew that speaking the human language was hard. But she understand that the human's name were the syllables she kept repeating. Allure had excellent hearing and could hear it even through the glass. She narrowed her eyes in thought again, struggling to remember how she was taught to show her own name. She pointed to herself, then made more symbols. A...l...l...u...r...e...

(YES! I actually know sing language ) Chloe watched carefully, hardly aware that Tristan had approached. "She said hello," she explained to him quietly, still trying to figure out what Allure meant. "Then I think.. oh. Allure is her name!" Chloe could hardly believe that the mer was actually communicating. She smiled to the red woman in the water and pointed to Dr. Tristan. "Tristan," she said, then spelled it out in sign language while saying his name over and over. "I took sign language in collage, and my mother is hearing impaired (not really)," she explained quietly to her boss. *** Coral saw movement out of the corner of her eye, and she approached carefully. The red mer, A Coral Mer, that she had met earlier seemed to be communicating with a human. The Cave Mer, wanting action for once, swam up to the glass near where a middle-aged man was standing, seemingly entranced by the human and Allure. "Coral," Coral said slowly to the man. "Coral." She pointed to herself.
