Finchwhisper
Shadow of TreeClan
Name: Finchwhisper
Previous names: Finchkit, Finchpaw
Gender: Female
Clan: TreeClan
Rank: Warrior
Previous ranks: Kit, apprentice
Previous mentor: The lovely Arrowstrike <3
Apprentices: Ivypaw
Former Apprentices: Paleheart
Age: About young adult age
Mother: Meadowlark
Father: Unknown
Siblings: Too many to list here. xD
Siblings that have been met: Whitepaw, Autumnpaw, Crowkit, and Ivypaw.
Appearance:
Build: Rather thin, and sleek, though not really too scrawny, she had a rather normal build.
Size: Rather small for one her age, but not irregularly small.
Fur color: Light dusty brown, with darker brown tabby stripes.
Fur Length: Medium length, though is a bit more thicker because of it being leaf-bare.
Markings: Some mottled darker brown spots on the flank, that aren't too noticeable. She has darker brown ear tips, tail tips, paws, and muzzle.
Eye color: A nice and deep shade of green, like this.
Note: Contrary to possible assumptions I've seen made, and the character's personality and type, this character is not darkly colored. The reason? I simply chose a plain color without thinking about having it reflect the character type. Anyway, Finch is just a little light colored fluffball instead. xD
Skills:
Strength: Not much of a strong point, and she doesn't favor to use it to her advantage much. Despite that, she is still sturdy when it comes to normal strength.
Speed: Fairly good. She uses her speed to her advantage often, and is often quick and fleet footed. She does not have the talent or advantage of speed like many FireClanners do, though.
Stealth: Very good. She can blend in and adapt easily, and also is experienced with trying to hide in the shadows, so she actually has much practice when trying not to be noticed.
Agility: Fairly good. It is a strong suit when sneaking around camp unnoticed, or trying to navigate terrain, and she also has good reflexes, though it is still developing, and she doesn't have extraordinary agility.
Tracking: Good. She has gotten used to using scent while observing or learning more about cats, and is starting to adapt to using scenting for many tasks, and differentiate certain scents, too.
Intellect: She has gotten used to adapting to situations in the forest when using stealth, and while may not be that quick to grasp things, when out of her comfort zone she will show keen intuitiveness and quick thinking when it's necessary. And also, though not very developed yet, she can estimate and judge enemies and how dangerous they are, and when to run or fight. She can also learn a lot by observing other cats if given time.
Emotion: Emotions don't play much of a part in anything that Finch does, not even adrenaline, so she doesn't think by emotion, but by instinct sometimes, yes. If cornered or provoked enough, however, she can feel fear and panic, which can immediately cause her to act provoked by these actions. And if a cat she is ever attached to is hurt, threatened, or attacked, she would become very angry and protective, and that might also cause lashing out with these instincts, even to the point of sacrifice if ever necessary.
Tree Climbing: Fairly good. She can climb trees, but not quite as well or fluidly yet as other TreeClanners can. She can't climb too high, either, but is slowly developing in getting more instinctively better at climbing trees.
Hunting: Fairly good. She considers hunting necessary in order to provide to her Clan, so she tries to practice a lot, though since her Clan is currently in the throes of leaf-bare, she has trouble learning how to hunt so skillfully, but her perfectionist side eventually causes her to keep improving and self-learning gradually.
In Battle: Fairly good. She is not prepared for battle too much, and doesn't have what only experience can grant. But she knows to use her size and stealth to her advantage, and knows some attacking movements that aren't just dictated by wild instincts, including tree climbing, so she is fairly skilled, but these moves are not perfected yet.
Weaknesses: Most definitely her inexperience, for against any much powerful opponent, and even if in a rage or panic while doing so, her raw instincts that would dictate random and wild attacking movements, and even her knowledge of some fighting movements almost assuredly wouldn't be enough. If in an unfamiliar situation, or when cornered where it would be hard to use her stealth skills, she would be almost defenseless, aside from her intellect for possible strategies and speed.
Strengths: Her stealth skills are probably one of her greatest strengths, since she can blend into the shadows or climb up trees silently to attack unexpectedly. Also, her agility and small size too, so she can dodge attacks better, so is more defense then offense. Also, her intellect, since she can calculate when to direct attacking movements at the right times, too. If rarely, very rarely provoked by emotion, she would immediately go on offense, attacking in wild, unpredictable ways without much thought, though it would be a very, very rare occasion.
Personality:
Where to even start?
Silent Observer: Finchwhisper has been an observer for most of her life. She watches other cats and their behavior, and listens to their words, in order to learn from them. Almost all of her knowledge she has so far has been gained from watching other cats, and always paying attention to each one and their words. She does it silently, never wanting other to take notice. She has an obsessive need to observe, even as a warrior, and it remains even when this side has to be unpleasantly restrained for the sake of duties.
Extreme Introvert: She has always distanced herself from other cats, never taking part in conversations much, and always trying to stay hidden while observing, in the shadows, never noticed. She doesn't do this for shyness reasons, rather because she doesn't like to be a part of interactions, she doesn't even like to be part of relationships either.
Resident Shadow: She very much likes to think of herself like the shadows she observed and discovered as a kit. Never being paid attention to, but still sticking behind the big crowd, always being there unless disrupted somehow. Yet, it's really still there. Just like her, and she accepts being the nearly unnoticeable shadow of TreeClan in a way, and even lives by this knowledge strictly.
Inferior to Others: She considers herself inferior to other members of the Clan, and she is indeed aware that she is not normal at all. She doesn't mind it or try to adhere to any standards to actually be "normal", but she does have her own mentality of self worth, and still adheres to the code of the Clan and tries to learn about it all the time, and contribute to her Clan in small ways too. She is very paranoid, and considers failing at any tasks, or actually being noticed by failures, being the greatest shame and dishonor to have, so she has a very meek standpoint when following procedures or a higher authority.
Emotionally Detached: She is very emotionally blank most of the time, only caring about learning more or being unnoticed while observing. She is alienated to pleasant emotions and experiencing them, so she doesn't understand kindness or compassion all that well. She isn't completely emotionless, however, and does in a way try to preserve her dying instincts of emotion. She tries to keep her loyalty and special attachment to her clanmates strong by doing small duties whenever she can, things that are hard to notice, but make things more pleasant or functional as a whole. She still has a loyalty to her clanmates that will never be spoken, but is still strong, though it is strictly for the whole of the group, only higher authorities getting shown more respect or loyalty. It was an attachment since birth that she clings to in any place or area she lives in, so it remains, and doesn't die inside her like other emotions did.
No Friendship: She doesn't understand the concept of friendship much at all, and instead sees it as shallow. During her experiences in the nursery, she despised how kits would so randomly make friends by just uttering some words or just having one or two pleasant experiences together, and it only grew as she became older. She only values deep, strong connection that form over time, or by something that shows it significant. If she would ever form a close bond, it would be very strong, and she would dedicate her whole self to it, and do her part by catering in a loving way to the other one's love language and what they like. /it might be deep, but never romantic/ She would never say or express her feelings out loud if it ever happened, though. So far, she has formed no special attachments with a singular Clan member.
Slow Comprehensive: Actually, despite being an observer and intuitive learner, she considers herself rather slow at learning things, and not good enough at having proper knowledge. Because of this, she actually reacts to things slowly most of the time, having slow reflexes and movements when she tries to comprehend something completely. She also doesn't speak much and is very silent, so that could be interpreted as not understanding much and not being that smart. In a way, it's true, but she always is noticing things, always observing and learning, and while she continues these firm habits, she also can be seen as quite smart and observant as well, even if she doesn't acknowledge it personally.
Knowledge Means Respect: She only respects those that have great knowledge, or at least, more then her. Those that have the greatest knowledge and are older or more experienced have her respect the most, and she tries to respectfully learn from them the most as well. For cats that might be the same age or not much older yet still seem to know more, she always is still respectful if they're decent in her opinion, and is usually nice enough to gain more information in her own way. She can't stand hyperactive or not very knowledgeable cats that only care about making friends or some other kind of strange goal, however, so certain ones can be very annoying to her. She respects those of higher authority either way.
Insignificant Opinions: As an observer, Finchwhisper does form many opinions about things, but she doesn't value them that much. Instead, she rather seeks out to discover what the opinion of the majority is about something, so she can adhere to them. It is a part of her low self worth mentality, and is what she does whenever learning something new, or something that seems odd.
Perfectionist: For many things, she is a perfectionist, holding high standards for herself, and having no room for failure if she can help it. She is paranoid about this, always noticing and chastising herself when realizing how she failed at a procedure, or was shamed in some way. In a way, she has a guilt complex as well, and even forms of mental self punishment if she feel she failed badly sometimes, whether by purposely shaming herself in some way, or doing something else that she would feel that she would deserve, she will do it, and not have much pity for herself, either.
Mortal Enemy- Change: Finchwhisper hates change in situations about more then anything, always being uncomfortable or unsettled by the slightest of changes, usually. She's very paranoid about this, and when it's a full change and long adjusting situation, she will hate it even more, only wanting to be numbed to this unfamiliarity that would always follow an important change for her, the latest one being her apprenticeship. She always becomes comfortable with situations eventually, and adjusting to become to like or at least get used to a new situation, but it seems that her situation is always changing. This dislike for change actually sparked her need to observe, since after opening her eyes she felt uncomfortable in the new world of the nursery, and responded to it by trying to learn more about it in her own comfortable way. There is one comfort zone that will fortunately never change for her, though- and that would be TreeClan as a whole.
Physical Quirks:
~ She tilts her head very frequently from side to side sometimes when observing very closely, or is puzzled.
~ She flicks her tail back and forth steadily when annoyed, or thoughtful.
~ She sometimes stands very still while observing another thing, not blinking for as long as possible as she comprehends or considers something.
Content: Finchwhisper is an observant cat, but is also very introverted, and prefers being unnoticed by others, often comparing herself to the very shadows she hides in, in order to observe freely. She is very emotionally detached from things, only having loyalty for her Clan as a whole. She doesn't want friendship, and only values deeper connections. The only cats she respects are the ones with more knowledge or experience then her. She is slow with comprehending and reacting to things most of the time, though is actually pretty smart. She is paranoid about many things, though doesn't show it. She also has very low self value, which causes her to serve her clanmates in various ways, be a strict perfectionist, and think her opinions are insignificant compared to the majority. She also hates change, and having to adjust to new situations for a long time.
History:
Kithood~ Finchkit was born to Meadowlark in the TreeClan nursery in late leaf-fall. She was a small thing, taking a bit longer then usual to open her eyes and gradually explore beyond the nest. When she did, she was appalled and unsettled by the world that had suddenly appeared around her. It was unfamiliar, and she didn't like it, especially with the other kits running around so chaotically. So, for a few days after opening her eyes, she took shelter in the nest and her mother, not wanting to face the world out there, and the strange unfamiliarity of it all. Eventually she did, however, her curiosity spurring her to do so, yet it was still unfamiliar, and strange. She was unsure of how to handle it, so she simply watched the happenings in the den. And she did again, beginning to realize how she could learn from simply watching, and taking information in. She didn't feel need to socialize, it felt simple enough to just watch the other kits- or observe. She kept doing this, eventually making a place for herself in a corner of the nursery with bits of moss and leaves. She would take shelter, simply watching, and in the process, her actual learning and maturing process becoming stilted. She never interacted, she rarely spoke, so that made things different for her. As she grew, she became more serious about her outlook, and also more unsettled by the kits behavior. She accepted being an observer now, and liked to compare herself to the shadows she saw all the time, so she didn't play much, instead she watched the games in a curious way, only contributing sometimes to do small tasks for the kits. There were some pleasant meetings with the decent kits in the nursery, but the annoying and hyperactive ones were the hardest to deal with, though she usually was unnoticed. Eventually, as she grew older she discovered the camp with the help of a couple of the more tolerable kits, and realized what a big world she lived in, which was very unsettling to the young one. Soon after that, she reached apprentice age.
Apprenticeship~ Finchkit was declared Finchpaw by the deputy Arrowstrike during a batch of apprentice ceremonies. She was very surprised by this change in rank, and in procedure. She was even more startled when the deputy said he would be her mentor. She did not adjust well to the change at first, however, not liking the apprentice's den, and not liking how crowded it was. She has just started her apprenticeship, and her training under Arrowstrike, while beginning, is going rather well. The apprentice has started to adapt a bit to her new living situations, doing small duties for the apprentice's den like she had tried to do in the nursery, and also trying to once again settle down, hopefully not having to deal with such a change again for a long while. After a while, she slowly settled into a very comfortable and steady routine as an apprentice, organizing systems in the den with the moss for building nests, and once again made a corner of her own that was barricaded by moss, where she could observe freely in the den. She got used to training on days when she was summoned by her mentor, and observing the camp when she was not, or going out to explore on the territory. She had her first meeting with another Clan cat that was not TreeClan, who was Deerpaw, but the encounter was very hostile, and definitely negative. Aside from that, though, she had met other cats, some making slightly pleasant impressions, some not so much. She met and started to become slightly attached to the other apprentice Foxpaw, and also met Autumnpaw, who probably made the most impact on her so far, as well as her mentor Arrowstrike. Now, during her late apprenticeship, she became one of the oldest in the den, and was aware of it too, using it to keep doing her procedures in the apprentice's den without any complaint. She started to relax during this time, becoming more assured in her procedures as an apprentice, though still emotionally blank, and usually unpleasant, still had a more relaxed perspective. She couldn't imagine being a warrior yet, for she would always think of herself as not worthy of such a position yet.
Warriorhood~ One day, a normal and more relaxed procedure day for Finchpaw, there were ceremonies, and she was appointed to the rank of warrior and named Finchwhisper by her mentor Arrowstrike. She was also given two apprentices Palepaw and Ivypaw to train. While initially summoning a bit of pride and dignity at her ceremony, she absolutely is unsettled and completely disturbed by the changes having to be made. She was torn away automatically from her routines and slight comfortable state as an apprentice, and constantly demeans and thinks herself not worthy to be a warrior yet, for she never comprehended that she would be, especially not worthy to train two apprentices. She is currently still very unsettled by the change, including having to exert herself in unfamiliar and uncomfortable ways while beginning to train her two apprentices. She tried to deaden the emotions causing her these unpleasant feelings, and despite internal struggles trains the appretnice in a proper way, or at least tries to with all the knowledge she knows. She might become attached to them as time goes on, but time will only tell as she continues her journey as a young and internally unsettled warrior.
Relationships:
Short acquaintances or ones that didn't affect Finch that much may not be added. My apologies if I forgot you.
Bonded:
Arrowstrike ~respected, fairly close~ Finchwhisper's former mentor, and the only cat she is starting to feel a very actually close and pleasant attachment to. tears of utter joy When he appointed her as his apprentice, she was very surprised that the deputy had decided to teach her, but also honored. It made her a bit more paranoid about things and shaming herself in front of a higher authority, but as their training began, she could respect his knowledge greatly, and learn from him accordingly. She enjoyed their training greatly, for it was a pleasant learning experience. Her view of him became a little more deep to her, however, when they met away from training, and actually had a conversation together going pleasantly. She started to see him as a secure and very wise presence in her life, and so craves his approval and possibly wants to get closer to him as well so she won't lose that secure presence. After the ceremony, and becoming a warrior, she fears that she will somehow, though a small meeting she had with the deputy sort of soothed this fear with confirmation that they could remain in contact pleasantly when possible. So far, she values his presence in her life greatly, and wants to encounter and be a support for him when possible, and also has feelings of protectiveness and attachment, though also respects him enough to control these instincts, and quite values the meetings they can have.
Enemies/Rivals:
Deerfrost ~annoyance, possible obsession~ Finchwhisper's FireClan enemy, and first one really, too. The first cat from another clan that she ever met across the border as an apprentice, Deerpaw definitely did not make a good impression. The cat seemed impulsive and stupid, yet unpredictable. This unpredictability caused Finch to become hurt and confused, and shut off all her emotions from this cat. This caused her to become coldly calculative and testing of angry responses from this cat objectively, to solve her own flaws by not seeing through Deerpaw's unpredictability. She eventually provoked the other one to leave, but is hardly finished. Deerpaw represents FireClan to her, and she hates how the cat managed to be unpredictable and not easy to understand, so she will find the cat again when she wants to, and try to examine further in a possibly obsessive way.
Acquaintances:
Foxstrike ~pleasant/possibly close acquaintance~ A cat that Finchwhisper is starting to see as a close acquaintance, and become a bit attached towards. They met when she was an apprentice, and he a kit, and a very fascinating conversation took place between them, one she had never had before with a kit. He was very refreshing to talk to, and actually ask thought provoking questions that impressed her. She does not think of him much different because of he's blind, rather thinks it's something that can be adapted too and something that makes one inferior. After that interaction, they met a couple more times, one briefly at a ceremony. She started to be a bit more interested in him, show protective instincts a bit, though these are faint, yet she respects Foxpaw for his similar and mature views, and because of this fondness and fascination might form an attachment as time goes on.
Autumnpaw ~red oni to the blue~ Currently an undetermined yet annoying acquaintance to Finchwhisper. They met as apprentices, when Autumnpaw noticed her during an observing session. It humiliated her when this happened, and the conversation that followed afterwards was not so pleasant, yet it continued on for a while. She couldn't understand Autumnpaw, and found her annoying and foolish.Though, as they continue to spend time together, albeit to her slight disapproval, she finds herself more confused about this apprentice, and starts in a subconscious way get more used to Autumnpaw, and be not so annoyed at everything, though there are very many moments. In a way the she-cat is amusing and almost pleasant to be around maybe, but Finch would never admit or show that, and continues to act blank and annoyed towards the other one anyway. The relationship is still in progress, but she might begin to become a bit fond of Autumnpaw, as unlikely as she thinks it currently.
Paleheart ~neutral acquaintance~ Finchwhisper's former apprentice. While they didn't interact too much personally during their training, he was a rather quick learner, and observed his surroundings well, and she approves of that. He claimed himself a vegetarian instead of eating meat, in confused and displeased her, but mostly because it was a troubling complication. When he finished his training, she was pleased, but only because she had trained him efficiently enough, without supposed negative aspects about it.
Ivypaw ~neutral acquaintance~ Finchwhisper's apprentice. She actually is teaching Ivypaw more personally as their training continues, grilling the other one with stealth and observation techniques, and is teaching more strictly and carefully. This is only because she thinks her apprentice has potentials, though has not yet gotten too attached as their training continues.
Meadowlark ~close acquaintance~ Finchwhisper's mother. While they aren't too close yet, they did have a rather pleasant interaction, and Finchwhisper considers the she-cat a close connection no matter what, as she still feels affectionate and fond in a way of her mother, as her mother was always a constant assuring presence in the nursery, and can still be fond because of that time back then.
Crowkit ~pleasant acquaintance~ Finchwhisper's younger sibling. They had one encounter, and it actually was a silent one at first. That's what touched her the most about it, for she relished the silence and closeness of it, which made her feel a sort of pleasantness toward the young one, and slight protectiveness since there was a familiarity of her mother to him. If meeting him again, she might be willing to get closer to him, though only time will tell that.
Ashfall ~pleasant acquaintance~ One of the more decent kits in the nursery when she was there, the two met when they were young. It was only one meeting, but the other one actually brought out more eager and pleasant emotions in her because he was so pleasant to be around, and to actually interact with. The pleasant emotions didn't last, unfortunately, but the other one fascinated her, and she wouldn't be too unhappy about getting to know him further sometime.
Flowerfall ~pleasant acquaintance~ Another one of the more decent kits in the nursery, she met him when they were both kits. She actually approved of him, since he seemed fine, and actually nice to ask questions to if she wanted, and was actually pleasant to be with.
Nightpaw ~pleasant acquaintance~ A tom which seems to actually be very decent, and not so bad to have in company. They met a few times in the nursery, then once in the apprentice's den. She doesn't understand his kind gestures and how he behaves, and it made her a bit suspicious, but otherwise he actually seemed very knowledgeable about things, which earned her respect, and was also surprisingly pleasant to encounter, and maybe to trust to have a bond with, though she hasn't trusted fully yet.
Silverpaw ~unpleasant acquaintance~ Silverpaw was actually a lot of the reason Finchwhisper began to despise many of the kits in the nursery when she was young, or at least the more hyperactive ones. She called Finch a friend, even though she was not really, and treated the relationship in a shallow way even later, it seemed. Finchwhisper did not blame the other one, merely saw her as an annoyance to be avoided usually, though unfortunately that was not possible sometimes.
Jaguardapple ~neutral acquaintance~ That one seems to be around a lot where she is. Not as annoying as Silverpaw, however, but still not very interesting to be around. They seem to be encountering one another lately though, either fortunately or unfortunately.
The End!
For now...
OOC:
Greetings, I am the performer of the character! In OOC I can be called Moon, or by my characters name, either is fine. Yes, I must apologize for the terribly long and detailed bio. This character has sat in me for a while, and since I made her a bit complex in roleplay, I blabbered a lot about the character here. xD I hope you enjoyed reading it a bit, however, and that I provided the necessary information for my character!
Also, feel free to post if you want to plot sometime too! I'm open for any kind of plotting, and would love to do some with anyone!
