A rough patch [esther]

Serenity sat on her own, lapping at the water slowly. She had just had a huge reminder of her parents deaths, and it bothered her that that didn't bother her. Acctually, it never had, and that freaked her out. She shuddered. How could it have been her though? Shhe shook her head and pricked her ears as she heard a cat behind her, not bothering to turn around. "hat do you want?" she asked.

Esther slowly made her way to the river, desperate for a drink. She was new to DeathClan and was still finding her way around, so she had no idea that a river ran through here. 'My puddle-searching was a waste of time.'

She didn't think much of the cat that was already there. She decided to ignore her, too tired to say hello until the cat turned to her. Esther looked down at her paws. "Water." She answered quietly, hoping Serenity wouldn't deprive her of that.

Serenity nodded towardss the river. "Plenty to share." she murmered, not sure if she had been startled by the other cat's appearance. "What's your name? You seem new." she added, inspecting the youngling. She would have gone back to her den long ago, but she was stressed and she always cleaned when she was stressed. At that point she wasn't sure reorganizing her den one more time would be good for her health. At least she wasn't alone.

After whispering a thanks, Esther padded up to the water and started to drink from it. She listened to Serenity's question, though only lifted her head to answer after she'd had her fill. 'It's so cold, too! I can't believe I've been missing out on this.'

"I'm Esther. I just joined." She said softly, taking a short glance at the other feline. She looked to be an adult, and was a very pretty one at that. "Who are you?"

"Call me what you want." she responded. She would share her name eventually, she just wanted to figure out what this cat would call her. She commonly did that. "Nice to meet you esther."

"Okay." She wasn't going to try and guess this cat's name. She'd just have to be content with never knowing. Taking a few more laps from the river, she lifted her head and wiped away any water droplets. She didn't say anything to Serenity's comment.

Serenity turned her attention to the river, paw in the water as she watched for the telltale glistening of scales. "Sorry, you had sstartled me."

"Oh. That wasn't my intention." She murmured, though assumed that Serenity probably knew that. She gave her chest fur a few gentle licks, unsure of what to say.

Serenity nodded. "Congrats on that." she said, not bothering to go in depth on that. She saw a fish swim by and flung her paw out of the water, the fish flingling to the ground where she bit it's neck to still the squirming body. "Want some?" she offered.

Esther looked over at the sudden sound of a splash. She then quickly turned away, not even wanting to look at the fish. She thought they were disgusting and was sure that it'd show on her face, and she didn't want to be disrespectful. "No thank you."

"If your sure." she said with a smile, taking a bite of the fish and smiling. She laughed. "Do you not like fish?" she asked.

"Yeah... I'd rather watch them swim." She stayed in her position, almost gagging as the scent of dead fish made its way toward her.

Serenity nodded, turning to the water where she was transfixed by the fish swimming all around. When she noticed Esther making a face she ate the fish quickly, trying to get rid of the smell as quick as possible. "What do you like then?"

"Um... I like..." She looked up as a few birds flew overhead. "I like birds, I suppose. It's more fun to observe them than eat them, though." Esther shrugged. She didn't have much of a prey preference. "Is fish your favorite?"

Serenity shook her head wildly. "I will eat them, because their easy to hunt. Rabbit is my preference although they are not commonly found around here. I can't store fish in my den without the horrid smell." she wrinkeled her nose.
